CHAPTER 3 — The Bride Who Was Never Supposed to Be Exposed

The ballroom went dead silent.

Ethan stared at the photo in his shaking hands.

Emily was alive.

The woman he had mourned for seven years was standing in that picture, thinner, paler, but alive. And beside her was the little girl now standing in front of him.

His daughter.

Victoria suddenly laughed, but it sounded broken.

“This is ridiculous,” she said. “That photo is fake.”

But Ethan didn’t look at her.

He looked at the little girl.

“What’s your name?”

The child swallowed hard.

“Lily.”

Ethan’s eyes filled with tears.

Emily had once told him if they ever had a daughter, she wanted to name her Lily.

Victoria turned to security.

“Remove her. Now.”

But before the guards could move, Lily whispered one sentence that destroyed everything.

“My mommy said the lady in the white dress paid the man who hurt us.”

Every phone in the ballroom lifted.

Guests gasped.

Victoria’s father, a powerful judge, stood from the front row.

“Enough!”

But Ethan stepped between Lily and everyone else.

“No,” he said coldly. “Nobody touches her.”

Then Lily handed him one final thing.

A tiny recording device.

Ethan pressed play.

Emily’s weak voice filled the ballroom.

“Ethan
if Lily finds you, it means Victoria failed to silence us. She caused the crash. She paid my nurse. She stole my letters. And she made sure you believed I was dead.”

Victoria screamed, “Turn it off!”

But it was too late.

The recording continued.

“And Ethan
 Lily is your daughter.”

The room exploded.

Victoria ran toward the exit, but police officers were already walking in.

Ethan looked at her, his face empty.

“You let me bury an empty grave.”

Victoria cried, “I did it because I loved you!”

Ethan shook his head.

“No. You did it because you wanted my name.”

Hours later, the wedding hall was empty.

No music.

No flowers.

No bride.

Only Ethan sat on the marble floor, holding Lily as she cried into his chest.

Then the doors opened.

A woman stepped inside slowly.

Weak.

Scarred.

Alive.

Emily.

Ethan stood frozen as she whispered through tears

“I told our daughter you would recognize her.”

And for the first time in seven years, Ethan didn’t feel like a billionaire.

He felt like a man who had finally come home.

But when Emily hugged him, she slipped one more note into his hand.

May you like

On it were five words:

Victoria was only the beginning.
