CHAPTER 2: SHE OPENED LOCKER 317 AT MIDNIGHT… AND FOUND THE WOMAN EVERYONE SAID WAS DEAD

At 11:58 p.m., Emily Carter stood inside the empty train station, holding the silver key with trembling fingers.
Locker 317 was rusted, forgotten, and covered in dust.
She turned the key.
Inside was a black notebook, a child’s hospital bracelet, and one photograph that made her stop breathing.
Sarah was alive.
But she wasn’t smiling anymore.
On the back of the photo were five words:
Trust the boy. Not the police.
Suddenly, footsteps echoed behind her.
Emily spun around.
A man in a dark coat stood at the end of the hallway.
Then another.
Then another.
She grabbed the notebook and ran.
Her heels slammed against the concrete as the men chased her through the station. She barely escaped through a side exit, collapsing into an alley with her heart pounding.
When she opened the notebook, every page was filled with names, bank transfers, fake signatures, and one shocking truth:
Sarah had not stolen millions.
She had discovered that Emily’s own company was being used to hide money for some of the richest men in America.
And the person who framed Sarah…
was Emily’s boss.
The next morning, Emily returned to her office pretending nothing had happened.
But everyone was staring.
Her computer was gone.
Her access card no longer worked.
And on her desk sat a white envelope.
Inside was the same blue ribbon from the boy’s key.
Then her boss walked in, smiled, and said:
“You should have chosen your life over the truth.”
Before Emily could answer, the elevator opened.
The homeless boy stepped out.
But this time, he was wearing a clean black suit.
Two security guards stood behind him.
Emily stared in shock.
The boy looked at her boss and said quietly:
“My mother told me you’d panic when the key was found.”
Then the entire office fell silent.
Because the boy was not homeless.
He was the only heir to the Carter Foundation…
and Sarah had been hiding him for seven years.
But the biggest shock came when he turned to Emily and whispered:
“My mom isn’t the one they buried.”
Emily felt the room spin.
“Then who was in the coffin?”
The boy looked toward the glass doors.
A woman in sunglasses stepped inside.
Sarah.
Alive.
And holding a gunmetal briefcase.
She looked directly at Emily’s boss and said:
May you like
“Now let’s talk about the night you tried to kill me.”
