CHAPTER 2 – The Last Four Seconds

Shaking, Emma replayed the video.

Everything looked exactly as she remembered.

Daniel cheating.

The mysterious woman.

The whispered conversation.

Nothing unusual...

Until the final four seconds.

The image suddenly zoomed in by itself.

No one had touched the phone.

The camera focused past Daniel's shoulder.

Toward the reflection in the kitchen window.

Emma leaned closer.

Her breathing stopped.

There wasn't just Daniel and the woman.

Standing silently behind them...

Was a third person.

A tall man dressed entirely in black.

Watching them.

Watching Emma.

His face couldn't be seen.

But his gloved hand slowly raised...

Holding what looked like a small remote control.

Daniel never looked surprised to see him.

Instead...

He nodded.

As if waiting for instructions.

The woman quietly stepped aside.

The man pressed the button.

Exactly then...

The screen glitched.

The recording ended.

Emma rewound it again.

The mysterious figure appeared every single time.

Impossible.

He had never been in the apartment.

Or had he?

Suddenly, her phone rang.

Unknown Number.

Against every instinct, she answered.

A calm male voice spoke.

"Mrs. Lawson..."

"You weren't supposed to watch the last four seconds."

Click.

The line went dead.

Before Emma could move, every light inside the penthouse switched off simultaneously.

Only her laptop remained on.

Its screen slowly lit up with a single sentence written in white letters.

"Now you know why Daniel married you."

Emma stared in horror.

Because in that moment...

She realized the affair had never been the real betrayal.

May you like

She had been the target...

From the very beginning.
