CHAPTER 4 – The Ring Was Never About Love

Emma backed away.
Daniel stepped closer, no longer pretending to be sorry.
The man she had loved for twelve years was gone. In his place stood a stranger with cold eyes and a calm smile.
“You don’t understand,” Daniel said. “That ring is worth more than your life.”
Emma’s heart pounded.
“So our marriage was fake?”
Daniel looked at her for a long moment.
Then he laughed softly.
“At first.”
Those two words hurt worse than the betrayal.
Before Emma could answer, the lights flashed on.
Police sirens exploded below the building.
Daniel’s smile vanished.
Emma lifted her phone.
The video had not uploaded to an unknown server.
It had uploaded to her father’s private legal vault.
And the moment Daniel demanded the ring...
Every file had been released to the FBI.
Daniel lunged for her.
But the penthouse door burst open.
Agents stormed inside.
The mistress screamed.
The man in black tried to escape through the service hallway, but he was stopped by someone Emma never expected to see.
Her father’s former driver.
The same man everyone said had died in the accident with him.
He looked at Emma and said quietly,
“Your father told me to protect you when the truth came out.”
Daniel was dragged away in handcuffs, still shouting that Emma had no idea what she had done.
But Emma wasn’t listening.
Because inside the ring, investigators found one more hidden file.
A birth certificate.
A sealed adoption record.
And a name Emma had never seen before.
May you like
Her real father...
was not the man in the video.
