chapter 1

Margaret Ashford had spent forty years building the image of the perfect woman.
Elegant.
Wealthy.
Untouchable.
Every crystal chandelier in her mansion reflected the same message:
No one questioned Margaret Ashford.
Until one ordinary housemaid accidentally touched a velvet jewelry box.
And within seconds...
Everything changed.
Emily Parker had only worked at the Ashford estate for six weeks.
At twenty-three, she was quiet, hardworking, and grateful for every paycheck.
Her mother needed expensive medical treatment.
Her younger brother was still in college.
Losing this job wasn't an option.
That morning, Emily was simply cleaning Margaret's dressing room.
The room looked more like a museum than a bedroom.
Gold-framed mirrors.
Silk curtains.
Diamond necklaces displayed inside glass cabinets.
Everything had to be spotless.
As Emily dusted the marble vanity, she noticed a small blue velvet jewelry box sitting dangerously close to the edge.
"If it falls..."
she whispered.
Carefully, she reached out to move it back.
That single touch...
changed her life.
"What do you think you're doing?!"
Margaret's voice exploded through the room like thunder.
Emily jumped.
"I—I was only trying to keep it from falling..."
"Liar!"
Margaret stormed across the room, snatching the box from Emily's trembling hands.
Her face turned pale.
She opened it.
Inside rested an emerald necklace worth nearly two million dollars.
She stared at it for several seconds.
Then suddenly...
she screamed.
"One stone is missing!"
The room fell silent.
Within moments, every servant gathered outside the bedroom.
Margaret pointed directly at Emily.
"Search her."
Emily's eyes filled with tears.
"Mrs. Ashford... I didn't steal anything."
"You were the only one touching my jewelry!"
The head butler reluctantly searched Emily's pockets.
Nothing.
Her apron.
Nothing.
Her shoes.
Nothing.
Margaret didn't care.
"I don't need proof."
"I know a thief when I see one."
Emily felt dozens of eyes burning into her.
Some servants looked away.
Others simply remained silent.
No one dared defend the newest maid.
Margaret grabbed Emily's employee badge.
"You're fired."
"And if that emerald isn't returned by tonight..."
"I'll make sure you never work in this city again."
Emily left the mansion sobbing.
She never once looked back.
But inside Margaret's luxurious bedroom...
someone quietly smiled.
Hidden behind the antique mirror...
a tiny security camera had recorded everything.
And there was one detail no one noticed.
Not Emily.
Not the servants.
Not even Margaret herself.
As Margaret closed the jewelry box, a wrinkled hand secretly slipped something into her own robe pocket.
The missing emerald...
had never left the room.
It had never been stolen.
Someone wanted Emily blamed from the very beginning.
But the biggest shock wasn't the missing gemstone.
When the security technician reviewed the footage that evening...
he froze the video on a single frame.
The woman hiding the emerald...
wasn't acting alone.
Standing silently in the doorway...
watching the entire setup unfold...
was someone Margaret trusted more than her own family.
And that person smiled...
May you like
before quietly closing the door.
To Be Continued...
