CHAPTER 5: "I'M YOUR SISTER"... THE LITTLE GIRL'S SECRET EXPOSED THE DARKEST LIE IN THE ASHFORD FAMILY

Emily didn't wait.

The moment the black SUVs stopped beneath the bridge, she ran.

Rain soaked her clothes.

Her lungs burned.

Behind her came the sound of footsteps.

Fast.

Organized.

Relentless.

"They're heading east!"

"Don't let her reach the highway!"

Flashlights swept through the darkness.

Emily squeezed beneath a broken drainage pipe, covering her mouth to stop herself from breathing too loudly.

For several terrifying minutes...

Silence.

Then...

Her phone vibrated.

Another message from the unknown number.

LOOK UNDER THE BRIDGE.

Emily frowned.

Slowly, she crawled toward the concrete support column.

Hidden behind loose bricks was a small metal box.

Inside...

There was a tiny key.

A family photograph.

And a handwritten note.

If you're reading this, I couldn't protect you anymore. Trust no Ashford. Especially Daniel. — Dad

Emily turned over the photograph.

Her heart nearly stopped.

The picture showed Jonathan holding...

Two newborn babies.

Not one.

Two.

On the back, someone had written:

Emily & Grace — July 14

Emily whispered,

"I have... a twin sister?"

Before she could process it, another voice echoed from the darkness.

"You finally found it."

Emily spun around.

Standing ten feet away was a little girl wearing a yellow raincoat.

The same voice from the phone.

She couldn't have been older than twelve.

Her face was pale.

Her eyes were filled with fear.

"I'm Grace."

Emily shook her head.

"That's impossible."

Grace slowly removed the hood from her head.

Around her neck hung half of a silver heart-shaped pendant.

Emily instinctively touched her own necklace.

She had worn it since childhood.

Half of a broken silver heart.

With trembling hands, the sisters placed the two halves together.

Click.

The pendant became whole.

Neither of them spoke.

Neither of them had to.

The truth was undeniable.

Tears rolled down Emily's face.

"My whole life..."

"I thought I was alone."

Grace hugged her tightly.

"You were never alone."

"They just made sure we never met."

Emily looked into her sister's eyes.

"Who are 'they'?"

Grace didn't answer immediately.

Instead, she handed Emily a sealed envelope.

"Open it."

Inside was a DNA report.

Another birth certificate.

And one final document.

A legal trust agreement signed twenty-three years earlier.

Jonathan Ashford had secretly transferred 51% of the Ashford family fortune...

...not to his wife.

...not to Daniel.

But jointly...

To Emily Parker and Grace Parker.

Emily's hands shook violently.

"Daniel knows about this?"

Grace nodded.

"He found out three months ago."

"That's why he framed you."

"That's why he hunted Dad."

"And that's why..."

She couldn't finish the sentence.

Emily looked down.

"What?"

Grace whispered through tears.

"Mom wasn't the first woman Daniel killed."

Emily froze.

"What did you say?"

Grace slowly reached into her backpack and placed five photographs on the ground.

Five smiling women.

Each had disappeared over the last fifteen years.

Each case had been ruled an accident.

Each one...

Had worked for the Ashford family.

Emily stared at the final photograph.

It was Mrs. Bell.

The elderly housekeeper.

The woman everyone believed was Daniel's loyal accomplice.

Across the bottom of the photo, written in red ink, were six chilling words.

NEXT TARGET: EMILY PARKER.

Suddenly...

A helicopter's spotlight illuminated the bridge.

Police sirens echoed from every direction.

Grace grabbed Emily's arm.

"No..."

Emily whispered.

"We're saved."

Grace's face turned white.

"Those aren't police."

Emily looked closer.

The vehicles had no official markings.

The uniforms looked convincing.

But every badge carried the same symbol.

A black raven.

Grace's voice cracked.

"Daniel owns a private security company."

"They can look exactly like the police."

The helicopter descended lower.

A loudspeaker echoed through the rain.

"Emily Parker... surrender now."

Then came the sentence that made both sisters realize there was no one left they could trust.

"By order of the Ashford Family Foundation."

Emily slowly looked at Grace.

Grace looked back.

For the first time...

They both understood the horrifying truth.

Daniel wasn't just protecting an inheritance.

He controlled judges.

Lawyers.

Police.

Security.

Politicians.

The Ashford empire wasn't a family.

It was an untouchable empire built on blood.

And somewhere inside that empire...

Daniel smiled as he watched the helicopter's live feed.

He calmly picked up a phone.

"Phase One is complete."

A voice on the other end asked,

"What about the sisters?"

Daniel looked out over the city lights.

"They've finally discovered the truth."

He smiled.

May you like

"Now they're walking exactly where I wanted them to."
