CHAPTER 4: THE VIDEO PROVED MARGARET WAS THE KILLER… UNTIL THE LAST TEN SECONDS CHANGED EVERYTHING

Emily couldn't breathe.
The screen on her phone showed her mother, Sarah Parker, trapped inside an abandoned lakeside cabin.
She was crying.
Begging.
"Please... don't do this. My daughter has done nothing."
Margaret Ashford stepped into the frame.
Elegant.
Calm.
Holding a pistol.
Emily covered her mouth.
"No..."
The video continued.
Margaret pointed the gun directly at Sarah.
"You should have disappeared when I gave you the chance."
Sarah shook her head.
"Jonathan deserves to know the truth."
Margaret's eyes filled with hatred.
"If he learns about the child..."
"...everything I've built is over."
Emily's hands trembled so violently she almost dropped the phone.
The recording suddenly shook.
Someone hidden behind a window was secretly filming everything.
Sarah whispered one final sentence.
"Promise me... you'll protect Emily."
Then...
A gunshot.
Sarah collapsed.
Emily screamed into the empty night.
Tears streamed down her face.
"My mother..."
The video stopped.
For several seconds, she simply stared at the black screen.
Then...
It started playing again.
Automatically.
A second hidden recording.
Timestamp:
Three minutes later.
Emily frowned.
Margaret was still standing beside Sarah's body.
But suddenly...
Another person walked into the cabin.
Daniel.
He looked completely calm.
Margaret burst into tears.
"What have I done?"
Daniel gently took the gun from her shaking hand.
"It's okay, Mother."
"I'll fix everything."
Emily watched in horror as Daniel carefully wiped Margaret's fingerprints from the weapon.
Then...
He placed the gun back into her hand.
"No one can ever know I was here."
Margaret looked confused.
"What are you talking about?"
Daniel smiled.
"Because you're going to remember this differently."
He pulled a syringe from his jacket.
Emily froze.
"No..."
Daniel injected Margaret in the neck.
Within seconds...
Her eyes became unfocused.
She struggled to stay awake.
"What... did... you..."
Daniel caught her before she collapsed.
"A memory suppressant."
"When you wake up..."
"You'll truly believe you pulled the trigger."
Emily's heartbeat exploded.
Margaret hadn't been framed for theft.
She had been manipulated for decades.
Daniel looked directly toward the hidden camera.
And smiled.
Almost as if...
He knew someone was recording.
Then he leaned close to Margaret's unconscious body and whispered words that made Emily's blood run cold.
"You were never the mastermind."
"You were only my first victim."
Emily paused the video.
Her entire world had collapsed.
Everything she believed for the last twenty-four hours...
was wrong.
Margaret wasn't innocent.
She had threatened Sarah.
She had brought the gun.
But Daniel...
Daniel had transformed a desperate confrontation into a murder.
Before Emily could think another thought...
Her phone rang.
Unknown Number.
Against every instinct, she answered.
A little girl's voice whispered through the speaker.
"Emily..."
"They're coming."
"They already know you watched the video."
Emily's heart stopped.
"Who are you?"
Silence.
Then the little girl quietly said...
"I'm your sister."
The call disconnected.
At that exact moment...
The headlights of three black SUVs lit up the abandoned bridge where Emily was hiding.
May you like
There was nowhere left to run.
