CHAPTER 2 — THE MAN WHO NEVER FORGAVE

Within minutes, the hospital changed completely.

Executives arrived.

Lawyers flooded the lobby.

Specialists from three different medical centers were flown in.

The same supervisor who had questioned Emily now couldn't even lift her eyes.

She quietly apologized.

Adrian ignored her.

Every second of his attention belonged to Noah.

When the lead neurologist explained the infection, Adrian interrupted only once.

"Whatever it costs."

"But sir..."

"I didn't ask."

Medical equipment that normally required weeks to obtain appeared within hours.

Entire departments worked through the night.

Emily watched from the hallway, unable to understand what she was seeing.

Then Adrian approached.

He didn't yell.

He didn't accuse her.

Instead, he quietly asked,

"Why didn't you tell me?"

Emily's tears finally came.

"Because I thought your enemies would use him."

Adrian looked toward the sleeping child.

"They already have."

Emily frowned.

"What?"

Adrian lowered his voice.

"The infection isn't natural."

Her blood turned cold.

"What are you saying?"

"My family's doctors confirmed it."

He slid a confidential report across the table.

The bacteria had been intentionally engineered.

Someone had infected Noah.

Not to kill a baby...

But to force Adrian out of hiding.

At that exact moment...

One of Adrian's bodyguards sprinted into the hallway.

"Boss."

"What?"

"We found the nurse."

"What nurse?"

"The one who switched Noah's medication."

Emily felt every drop of blood leave her body.

"There was no accident."

The bodyguard nodded once.

"They've already escaped."

Adrian looked toward the elevator.

Then quietly spoke words that terrified everyone nearby.

"Lock every exit."

"No one leaves this hospital."

For the next twenty minutes...

The building became something no hospital had ever become before.

A battlefield.

Security cameras were reviewed.

Phones were confiscated.

Every visitor was questioned.

Then...

One surveillance clip revealed the impossible.

May you like

The woman who had injected Noah...

Had entered the hospital using Emily's own identification.
