CHAPTER 2 — "THE BILLIONAIRE NOBODY RECOGNIZED"

Vanessa grabbed Ethan's arm.

"Wait."

"You never told me..."

Ethan looked at her calmly.

"You never asked."

The pilot gently opened the rooftop doors leading to a waiting helicopter.

Its engines were already running.

The restaurant manager rushed outside.

He bowed lower than anyone else.

"Mr. Carter... please forgive us."

"We didn't know."

Ethan smiled politely.

"You treated me exactly the way you believed I deserved."

Those words hit harder than any insult.

Vanessa's father, Richard Whitmore, suddenly appeared.

He had just arrived after receiving frantic calls from friends.

"What happened?"

One guest handed him a phone.

He watched the livestream.

His daughter mocking Ethan.

Calling him poor.

Laughing.

Humiliating him before hundreds of people online.

Richard's face turned white.

"Ethan..."

he whispered.

"I didn't know..."

Ethan nodded politely.

"I know."

Richard swallowed hard.

"My company has worked with Carter Aerospace for years."

Vanessa froze.

"Carter... Aerospace?"

Richard slowly turned toward her.

"You've never even bothered to learn his last name?"

Vanessa's knees weakened.

The Carter family wasn't just wealthy.

They owned aircraft manufacturing companies...

Private aviation networks...

Luxury hotels...

Investment firms...

And one of the world's largest satellite communications businesses.

For years...

Ethan had hidden his identity.

Not because he enjoyed pretending to be poor.

Because his grandfather believed one lesson mattered above everything else.

"If someone only loves your money..."

"They'll never love you."

So Ethan had lived simply.

Worked an ordinary office job.

Driven an old sedan.

Rented a modest apartment.

He wanted someone to choose him.

Not his fortune.

Unfortunately...

Vanessa had made her choice.

In front of millions.

As Ethan prepared to board the helicopter, Vanessa dropped to her knees.

"I'm sorry."

"I didn't mean it."

"I was angry."

"I was joking."

Ethan looked into her eyes.

Then quietly asked,

"When I proposed..."

"If the pilot had never arrived..."

"Would you still be laughing?"

She couldn't answer.

Because they both knew the truth.

The helicopter lifted into the night sky.

Vanessa watched it disappear.

Only then did she realize...

She hadn't lost a poor boyfriend.

She had thrown away one of the world's most eligible billionaires.

May you like

But the real disaster...

Hadn't even begun.
