CHAPTER 1 — THE LITTLE GIRL WHO RUINED THE PERFECT WEDDING

The crystal chandeliers sparkled above the grand ballroom as hundreds of guests rose to their feet, applauding the bride.

Everything was perfect.

The designer gown.

The million-dollar flowers.

The orchestra.

The cameras.

It was supposed to be the happiest day of Victoria Sinclair's life—a wedding everyone in the city would remember.

But before the ceremony could continue...

A little girl in a faded cream dress broke through the crowd.

She couldn't have been older than eight.

Her shoes were worn out.

Her cheeks were stained with tears.

Without saying a word, she ran straight toward an elderly maid who had been quietly serving drinks in the corner of the ballroom.

Gasps echoed across the room.

The child threw her arms around the maid and cried as if she'd finally found someone she'd been searching for forever.

"I found you..."

The guests stared in confusion.

The bride frowned.

The groom looked irritated.

Several security guards immediately moved closer.

"What is going on?" Victoria demanded.

One of the wedding planners rushed toward them.

"I'm so sorry, ma'am. We'll remove them immediately."

But before anyone could separate them, the little girl tightened her grip around the maid's waist.

"Please... don't let them take her away again..."

The room suddenly became silent.

The maid froze.

Her hands trembled as she slowly looked down at the crying child.

For a brief second...

Her eyes filled with recognition.

"No..."

she whispered.

"It can't be..."

Victoria rolled her eyes.

"This is ridiculous."

She walked over in her expensive heels, glaring at both of them.

"Who allowed these people inside my wedding?"

No one answered.

The guests began whispering.

Some thought the child had mistaken the maid for someone else.

Others wondered if it was a staged publicity stunt.

Victoria didn't care.

She pointed directly at the maid.

"You're fired."

The words hit like a knife.

"You embarrassed me in front of everyone."

The elderly woman lowered her head without arguing.

She had worked quietly at the Sinclair estate for nearly twenty years.

Never late.

Never complained.

Never caused trouble.

Yet today...

She was being thrown away without a second thought.

The little girl suddenly stepped in front of the maid.

"You can't fire her!"

Victoria laughed.

"And who exactly are you?"

The child wiped away her tears.

"My grandma always told me..."

"...that good people hide where selfish people never bother to look."

The ballroom fell strangely quiet.

Even the musicians stopped playing.

Victoria smirked.

"Someone get this child out of here."

Two guards stepped forward.

But before they reached her...

The little girl slowly reached into the pocket of her dress.

She pulled out a small, worn velvet pouch.

The old maid gasped the moment she saw it.

Her face turned completely pale.

"No..."

"How did you get that?"

The child held it tightly against her chest.

"My mommy told me..."

"...to give this only to the woman whose lullaby never left my dreams."

The maid's knees nearly gave out.

Across the room, the groom noticed something engraved on the pouch.

His confident smile vanished instantly.

Because he recognized the family crest.

A crest that had disappeared twenty-five years ago...

...along with an heir everyone believed had died.

And in that single terrifying moment...

The groom realized this little girl hadn't crashed the wedding by accident.

She had come looking for someone.

And the person she found could destroy everything the Sinclair family had spent decades hiding.

To be continued...
