CHAPTER 3 — The Ghost Who Came Back

Victoria wore black to Daniel's memorial.
Television cameras captured every tear.
Comment sections called her "the strongest widow in America."
Inside, she was already celebrating.
Ryan handed her champagne after the guests left.
"In a few weeks, everything belongs to us."
She raised her glass.
"To new beginnings."
Neither noticed the blinking red light hidden inside the antique grandfather clock.
Daniel's private security system had continued recording after his disappearance.
Every conversation.
Every confession.
Every celebration.
Miles away, inside a secluded rehabilitation estate owned by retired federal investigator Samuel Brooks, Daniel watched the footage on a large monitor.
His shoulder was fractured.
His ribs were bruised.
But he was alive.
The fisherman who found the wreckage had been Samuel himself—the same man who had received Daniel's mysterious message before the trip.
He had reached the river within minutes after tracking Daniel's emergency GPS watch.
The killers had never known the wheelchair contained an emergency release mechanism.
Daniel had escaped before the chair plunged over the final rocks, landing on a narrow ledge where Samuel's rescue team reached him using climbing gear.
Now Daniel watched Victoria laughing over expensive wine.
She wasn't mourning.
She was planning.
Selling company shares.
Destroying financial records.
Preparing to transfer millions overseas.
"She's giving us everything," Samuel said.
Daniel nodded quietly.
"Not yet."
"What are you waiting for?"
Daniel looked at the screen.
"The truth deserves an audience."
Two weeks later, Ashford Global held an emergency shareholders' meeting.
Every executive attended.
So did national media.
Victoria entered wearing elegant black, expecting to become the company's new controlling owner.
The attorney stepped onto the stage.
"There is one final recorded statement from Mr. Daniel Ashford."
The lights dimmed.
Gasps echoed across the room as Daniel appeared on the giant screen.
"If you're watching this... someone wanted me dead."
Victoria's face turned white.
The video continued.
Private surveillance clips filled the screen.
Secret phone calls.
Hidden bank transfers.
Ryan purchasing climbing gloves.
The life insurance paperwork.
And finally...
Crystal-clear audio recorded at the cliff.
"Push him."
Victoria stumbled backward.
Ryan tried to run.
Police officers waiting outside the ballroom stepped in before either reached the exit.
Handcuffs clicked shut.
Reporters exploded into chaos.
Then every screen inside the building suddenly went dark.
A single spotlight illuminated the rear entrance.
Slowly...
A wheelchair rolled forward.
Daniel Ashford entered the room alive.
No one spoke.
Victoria's champagne glass slipped from her fingers and shattered across the marble floor.
May you like
The man she had buried...
Had just come back to tell the truth himself.
