CHAPTER 5 The Trusted Uncle Pulled the Trigger… But the Bullet Hit Someone No One Expected

Chaos erupted.
Gunfire echoed through the marble halls.
Dominic's soldiers exchanged bullets with masked assassins who somehow bypassed every security checkpoint.
Someone had betrayed them.
Dominic grabbed Sophie and Leo.
"Stay behind me."
They rushed toward the underground bunker.
Halfway there...
A familiar voice echoed through the hallway.
"Don't bother running, brother."
Everyone turned.
Standing at the end of the corridor...
was Vincent Moretti.
Dominic's younger brother.
The man everyone believed had been overseas for months.
He smiled while holding a pistol.
"You always were too sentimental."
"You protected the boy."
"You protected the waitress."
"And now..."
"You'll lose everything."
Dominic's face hardened.
"You killed Isabella."
Vincent laughed.
"Twenty years ago."
"And I'd do it again."
Leo stepped forward, tears filling his eyes.
"It was you..."
"You hit me."
"You left me to die."
Vincent shrugged.
"You saw too much."
Then he raised his gun.
Not toward Dominic.
Toward Sophie.
"She's the only loose end."
Bang!
The shot echoed through the hallway.
Sophie closed her eyes.
She waited for pain.
It never came.
Instead...
Someone collapsed in front of her.
Dominic.
The bullet had pierced his shoulder as he threw himself between Sophie and the gunfire.
For the first time in his life...
The feared mafia king fell to one knee.
Blood spread across his white shirt.
May you like
Vincent smiled.
"This empire dies today."
