CHAPTER 2 — "The Groom Chose His Mother"

The wedding coordinator smiled nervously.

"The groom is here!"

Everyone immediately stood.

The orchestra began playing again.

Vanessa fixed her veil.

Her cruel expression disappeared instantly, replaced by the perfect smile she had practiced for months.

She whispered proudly,

"Finally."

The ballroom doors slowly opened.

All eyes turned toward the entrance.

Ethan Carter stepped inside.

Six feet three.

Perfectly tailored black tuxedo.

Successful technology entrepreneur.

The man every business magazine called Boston's newest billionaire.

Applause erupted.

But Ethan never smiled.

Not once.

His eyes searched the room.

They ignored the flower decorations.

Ignored the guests.

Ignored the minister.

Ignored...

His bride.

Instead...

His gaze stopped on one person.

The elderly cleaner kneeling on the marble floor.

Still collecting broken ceramic pieces with bleeding fingers.

For one long second...

No one moved.

Then Ethan started walking.

Fast.

Vanessa laughed softly.

"I knew he'd come straight to me."

But he didn't.

He walked right past her.

Past the bridesmaids.

Past the wedding arch.

Straight toward the old woman.

She looked up in confusion.

"Ethan...?"

Before anyone understood what was happening...

He dropped to his knees.

Wrapped both arms around the trembling woman.

And hugged her tightly.

"I'm sorry..."

His voice broke.

"I'm so sorry I wasn't here sooner."

The ballroom fell completely silent.

The old woman froze.

"My son..."

She whispered the words like they weren't real.

"My little Ethan..."

Many guests frowned.

Son?

Vanessa blinked.

"What...?"

Ethan carefully touched the red mark on his mother's cheek.

His hands trembled.

"Who did this?"

She tried to hide her face.

"It was an accident."

He looked at the blood on her fingers.

"It wasn't."

The hotel manager quietly stepped forward.

"Sir..."

"Miss Whitmore slapped her."

"And forced her to clean the floor."

Several guests lowered their heads.

Others nodded.

Someone quietly showed Ethan a phone recording.

He watched only ten seconds.

That was enough.

He slowly stood.

Turned toward Vanessa.

The smile had disappeared from her face.

"Ethan..."

"I can explain."

He didn't answer.

Instead...

He walked toward the wedding altar.

Picked up the expensive engagement ring resting beside the Bible.

Looked at it for several seconds.

Then...

He placed it gently into Vanessa's hand.

The ballroom held its breath.

His next six words shattered every dream Vanessa had built.

"She's my mother."

"The wedding is over."

Silence.

Absolute silence.

Vanessa laughed nervously.

"Stop joking."

"You can't cancel a wedding because of one old cleaner."

Ethan stared into her eyes.

"I didn't cancel it because you slapped a cleaner."

"I canceled it because you showed me exactly who you are."

"You believe money decides a person's value."

"You humiliated a woman who spent twenty-five years sacrificing everything for her son."

"My mother wore old clothes so I could study."

"She skipped meals so I could eat."

"She worked nights cleaning hotels while I built my company."

"And today..."

"You raised your hand against the person I owe my entire life to."

Vanessa's face turned white.

"No..."

"You never told me she was your mother."

Ethan's answer was colder than ice.

"You never asked."

"You judged her the moment you saw her uniform."

Then came the final shock.

Ethan reached into his jacket.

Pulled out a thick envelope.

"I received this one hour ago."

He handed it to Vanessa.

Inside were dozens of private investigation reports.

Photos.

Bank transfers.

Secret hotel reservations.

Messages.

Evidence that Vanessa had been secretly working with her father to force Ethan into signing a postnuptial agreement that would transfer control of his company after the marriage.

Even worse...

She had been having an affair with Ethan's financial advisor for nearly a year.

Every lie.

Every betrayal.

Every hidden plan.

Documented.

Verified.

The guests stared in disbelief.

Vanessa's father rushed forward.

"This is fake!"

Ethan calmly smiled.

"The FBI financial investigators didn't think so."

"The authorities are already waiting outside."

At that exact moment...

The ballroom doors opened once again.

Not for more wedding guests.

But for federal agents.

Vanessa collapsed to the floor.

Her perfect wedding...

Her social status...

Her family's reputation...

Everything disappeared in a single afternoon.

Ethan never looked back.

He helped his mother to her feet.

Wrapped his suit jacket around her shoulders.

Then quietly said,

"Let's go home, Mom."

For the first time in years...

The old woman cried.

Not because of humiliation.

But because her son had finally come back...

May you like

Exactly as he had promised.

End of Chapter 2... The greatest revenge wasn't revenge at all—it was revealing the truth before saying goodbye forever.
