CHAPTER 2 — The Hospital That Sold the Truth

Victoria had spent seven years blaming herself.

Her twins had been born three months early.

The delivery had become chaotic.

Machines screamed.

Doctors rushed through the room.

Then someone finally told her...

"We're sorry."

"Only one baby could be saved."

She believed them.

She buried one tiny coffin.

She raised Ethan with all the love she had left.

But now...

A second child stood alive in front of her.

Shivering on a Manhattan sidewalk.

The bracelet proved it.

Its serial number still matched the medical records burned into her memory.

She reached toward the boy with trembling hands.

"What... what's your name?"

The child hesitated.

"They call me Noah."

"Who calls you that?"

He lowered his eyes.

"The people at the shelter."

"My real mom never came."

Victoria burst into uncontrollable tears.

"I never stopped looking for you."

A crowd had gathered around them.

Someone quietly contacted the police.

Another called Child Protective Services.

Within minutes, detectives arrived.

The bracelet was photographed.

The hospital code was verified.

An investigator frowned.

"This number belongs to a twin delivery from seven years ago."

Victoria's blood ran cold.

The hospital archives were reopened.

Security footage long forgotten was recovered.

Old employee records were examined.

Then investigators uncovered something no one expected.

A neonatal nurse had disappeared only weeks after Victoria gave birth.

She hadn't retired.

She had resigned overnight.

Soon afterward...

Large deposits appeared in secret bank accounts.

The horrifying truth emerged piece by piece.

The nurse had been working with an illegal child trafficking network.

Healthy newborns were quietly declared dead...

Then sold.

But Noah had become sick before the buyers completed the transfer.

The traffickers abandoned him inside the foster system using false documents.

Eventually...

He disappeared completely.

Until homelessness swallowed him.

Victoria collapsed again after hearing the truth.

Someone hadn't stolen her son by accident.

Someone had sold him.

And the people responsible had stolen seven years of his life.

But an even darker revelation was still waiting.

Because one name appeared repeatedly inside the investigation.

May you like

A name Victoria knew better than anyone.

Her late husband.
