Chapter 4 - The Siege of Bellavita

FB Hook Title: 🛑 "THE HOUSE IS BURNING, THE ENEMY IS INSIDE, AND THE ONLY WAY TO SAVE THE CHILD IS TO TRUST THE DEVIL."

Alarms wailed through the Ferraro mansion, a deafening shriek that signaled a full-scale breach. Gunfire erupted in the courtyard—rapid, heavy, and merciless.

"Get her out of here!" Luca roared, grabbing Elena by the arm and pulling her behind the thick marble pillars of the dining hall as bullets ripped through the air, shattering the ancient paintings and stained-glass windows.

"Lily!" Elena screamed, panic clawing at her throat. "She’s upstairs! Luca, they’re going to get her!"

"Marco! Enzo! Hold the line!" Luca commanded his remaining loyal guards, who were returning fire against the invading Moretti soldiers. He looked down at Elena, his grip on her shoulder tightening. "Listen to me. There is a panic room behind the wine cellar. Go there. Now."

"Not without Lily!" Elena fought against his grip, her maternal instinct overriding her fear of the mafia boss. "I’m not leaving my baby!"

Luca’s eyes burned with a fierce, protective fire. "I will get her. I swear on my sister’s grave, Sofia. I will bring her to you. Now go!"

He pushed her toward the hidden service staircase. Elena looked at him, seeing a man who had spent his entire life being a monster, now risking everything to save a child who wasn't even his. She nodded, tears blurring her vision, and ran down into the darkness of the basement.

Luca turned back to the battlefield. The dining hall was a warzone. Enzo Moretti, armed with an assault rifle, was advancing with a dozen men.

"Ferraro!" Enzo shouted over the gunfire. "Your empire is finished! Hand over the girl and my sister-in-law, and maybe I’ll let you die quick!"

Luca didn't answer. He didn't need to. He slipped through the shadows of his own home like a ghost. He knew every creak, every hidden passageway. He bypassed the main stairs and took the private elevator straight to the West Wing.

He had to get to Lily.

As he reached the nursery, his heart—usually cold and steady—hammered against his ribs. He kicked the door open.

The room was in shambles. A window had been shattered, and standing near the crib was one of Enzo’s men. He had Lily gripped by the arm. The little girl was crying, clutching the silver swallow tightly in her small fist.

"Put her down," Luca said. His voice was dead, devoid of any emotion, which made it ten times more terrifying.

The soldier spun around, raising his pistol. "Back off, Ferraro, or I’ll—"

Luca didn't let him finish. He fired a single, perfect shot through the soldier's forehead. The man dropped instantly.

Luca rushed forward, catching Lily before she could fall.

"Mr. Sleeping Man!" Lily sobbed, wrapping her tiny arms around his neck, burying her face in his shoulder. "The bad men... they made loud noises."

"I know, piccola," Luca whispered, his heart swelling with an emotion he hadn't felt in ten long years. He held her tight, his hand shielding her head. "I’ve got you. You're safe."

"The bird sang for me," Lily whimpered, showing him the silver swallow. "I kept it safe."

"You did a perfect job," Luca said, stepping over the fallen soldier.

But as he turned to exit the nursery, the doorway was blocked. Enzo Moretti stood there, a wicked, triumphant grin on his scarred face. He held a shot-up submachine gun aimed directly at Luca’s chest.

"Well, well," Enzo sneered. "The great Luca Ferraro, reduced to a babysitter. My brother would laugh if he were alive to see this."

Luca stood tall, his body completely shielding Lily. "Your brother was a coward, Enzo. And so are you."

"Maybe," Enzo laughed. "But I’m the coward who’s about to inherit Bellavita. Drop your weapon, Luca. Or I’ll put a bullet through both of you right now."

Luca looked at Enzo. Then, he looked down at the silver swallow in Lily's hand. The tiny gears were still turning.

Because some things forget how to fly...

Luca looked back at Enzo, a cold, lethal smile spreading across his face. "You made one mistake, Enzo."

"Oh yeah? What’s that?"

"You brought a gun to my house," Luca whispered.

With his free hand, Luca pulled a small detonator from his pocket and pressed the button.
