CHAPTER 1 — "The Maid Was Eating Leftovers on the Kitchen Floor... Until the Billionaire Saw the Necklace That Made Him Drop to His Knees."

No one in the Whitmore mansion was supposed to see Nora like that.
The mansion's kitchen looked like something from a luxury magazine. Marble counters reflected the morning sunlight. Crystal chandeliers glittered overhead. Imported fruit rested untouched in silver bowls while fresh bread cooled beneath embroidered linen cloths.
Everything smelled of wealth.
Everything except Nora.
She sat hidden beside the marble island with her knees against her chest, eating cold mashed potatoes and half a chicken breast someone had thrown away after dinner.
She didn't even use a fork.
She was too afraid someone would hear.
"Just finish quickly," she whispered to herself.
"Then clean the dishes before Mrs. Lancaster comes."
Mrs. Vivian Lancaster—the mansion's ruthless housekeeper—had only one rule.
"Servants eat outside. Animals eat on the floor."
Nora had broken both rules.
She hadn't eaten in nearly two days.
Every dollar she earned went toward paying off medical bills left behind by her late mother.
Her stomach hurt so badly she could barely stand.
Then...
Click.
Leather shoes echoed across the marble.
Her blood froze.
Standing in the doorway was Jonathan Whitmore.
Owner of Whitmore Industries.
One of the richest men in America.
Everyone feared him.
He rarely spoke.
He never smiled.
The entire staff immediately lowered their heads whenever he entered a room.
Nora scrambled to hide the plate behind her legs.
"I'm sorry, sir..."
"I'll clean everything."
"I promise."
Jonathan didn't answer.
His cold gray eyes remained fixed on her.
Not with anger.
With confusion.
"Why," he finally asked,
"...are you eating on the floor?"
Tears filled Nora's eyes.
"I wasn't allowed to use the dining room."
Silence.
Jonathan slowly looked around the enormous kitchen.
There were twelve empty chairs surrounding a table large enough for a royal banquet.
And yet...
One starving girl had been forced to eat beside the trash can.
Something inside him twisted.
Before he could speak again...
A tiny silver locket slipped from beneath Nora's uniform.
The chain caught the sunlight.
Jonathan's face instantly lost all color.
His breathing stopped.
He knew that necklace.
He had bought it twenty years earlier.
For his only daughter.
"Where..."
"Where did you get that?"
Nora instinctively covered it.
"My mother gave it to me."
"It's all I have left of her."
Jonathan staggered backward.
His hands trembled.
"What was your mother's name?"
Nora hesitated.
"...Elena."
The plate crashed onto the floor.
Jonathan fell to one knee.
The staff standing outside gasped.
Because Jonathan Whitmore...
A man who hadn't cried since his wife died...
Was crying now.
"My God..."
"Elena..."
"My little girl..."
Nora stared in disbelief.
"My mother told me never to tell anyone that name."
Jonathan looked into her eyes.
They were Elena's eyes.
The same green.
The same smile.
The same tiny birthmark beside her left eyebrow.
There was no mistake.
The starving maid...
Was his granddaughter.
But before Jonathan could embrace her...
Nora whispered something that made every servant in the hallway turn pale.
"My mother said..."
"...your family murdered my father."
The mansion suddenly became deathly silent.
May you like
And upstairs...
Someone secretly dropped a crystal wine glass after hearing every word.
