CHAPTER 2 — "The Billionaire Finally Found His Lost Granddaughter... But Someone Inside the Mansion Wanted Her Dead Before Sunrise."

The shattered wine glass belonged to Amelia Whitmore.

Jonathan's elegant second wife.

For eighteen years she had enjoyed every dollar that should have belonged to Elena.

If Nora truly was Elena's daughter...

Everything changed.

The inheritance.

The company.

The family trust.

Everything.

That night Jonathan canceled every meeting.

He demanded DNA testing immediately.

Amelia smiled politely.

Then secretly called someone.

"It has to happen tonight."

"No mistakes."

Meanwhile...

Jonathan invited Nora to eat dinner with him.

For the first time in her life...

She sat at a table with real silverware.

She didn't know which fork to use.

She apologized every time she reached for bread.

Jonathan watched quietly.

Each tiny habit broke his heart.

His granddaughter had lived like this while he searched cemeteries believing Elena was dead.

That evening Jonathan showed Nora old photographs.

Nora suddenly froze.

One picture showed her mother smiling beside a handsome young journalist named Daniel Ross.

"My father."

Jonathan looked stunned.

"You remember him?"

"My mother talked about him every birthday."

"He wasn't rich..."

"But she said he was the bravest man she'd ever known."

Jonathan's expression darkened.

Daniel had disappeared the same week Elena vanished.

Police claimed both had run away.

Jonathan had believed it.

Now...

Nothing made sense.

Before midnight...

The DNA results arrived.

99.9998%.

Nora Whitmore.

Confirmed.

Jonathan embraced her while tears rolled freely down his face.

"I failed your mother."

"But I swear..."

"I'll never fail you."

Neither of them noticed the figure hiding outside the library door.

Amelia.

Listening.

Smiling.

At exactly 2:13 a.m., the mansion lost power.

The lights went out.

The security cameras stopped.

Someone quietly unlocked Nora's bedroom door.

A shadow stepped inside carrying a syringe.

The figure leaned over the sleeping girl...

But suddenly...

A voice echoed through the darkness.

"I've been waiting for you."

The lights came back on.

Jonathan stood in the doorway holding a pistol.

Behind him were six FBI agents.

And one elderly detective carrying a file unopened for eighteen years.

On the cover were only three words:

ELENA WHITMORE CASE
