Chapter 7 - Whispers in the DarkThe private penthouse on the top floor of the Rourke Foundation building looked out over the entire glittering skyline of Detroit.

The storm had passed, leaving the city streets washed in silver moonlight and neon reflections. Sienna sat in a deep leather armchair by the floor-to-ceiling window, nursing a glass of amber bourbon Julian had poured her himself. Bruiser lay heavily across her feet, his rhythmic breathing the only sound in the sprawling, luxurious room.
Julian walked over, setting a steaming mug of black coffee on the table beside her before leaning against the glass frame, staring out at the city he owned.
"My mother's hospital called tonight," Sienna said quietly, staring down into the golden liquid of her glass. "The billing department. They said the past-due balance was paid in full. An anonymous wire transfer from a Swiss account."
Julian took a slow sip of his bourbon without looking at her. "Must have been a generous donor."
"It was five thousand dollars," she said, her voice dropping to a whisper. "Plus a forty-thousand-dollar retention bonus. Which is funny, considering I've only been working for you for a month."
Julian finally turned his head, his dark eyes catching the ambient city light. "A good archivist is hard to find. And an archivist who saves my life with office supplies is priceless."
Sienna looked up, meeting his gaze steadily. The playful edge was gone, replaced by an intense, heavy gravity that made the air between them feel thick and electric.
"Why did you really bring me here, Julian?" she asked, using his first name for the very first time.
The name sounded natural on her lips, like something she had been doing for years.
Julian pushed off the window frame and walked slowly toward her, stopping just beside her chair. He reached down, his fingers gently brushing a stray lock of hair away from her cheek, his touch surprisingly soft for a man whose hands were stained with the blood of Detroit's underworld.
"Because for ten years, everyone who walked into my life wanted something from me," Julian said, his voice low and raw. "Money, protection, blood, power. You were the only person in that entire club who looked at me like I was just a man sitting under a bad painting."
He knelt down beside her chair, coming eye-to-eye with her. Bruiser lifted his head, letting out a soft grunt of approval before dropping back down.
"And because," Julian continued, a slow, mesmerizing smirk playing on his lips, "when my dog chose you, he had better taste than I ever did."
Sienna felt her breath catch in her throat. The danger of him—the guns, the mob wars, the scars, the reputation of the Reaper—evaporated, leaving only the fierce, magnetic gravity of the man kneeling before her.
"And if I say no to the rest of it?" she whispered, her heart hammering against her ribs. "If I take the money, pay off the bills, and walk away?"
Julian reached out, his warm palm resting gently against the side of her neck, his thumb tracing her jawline.

"You wouldn't be Sienna Cole," he murmured softly. "And I wouldn't let you leave."
Before she could answer, he leaned in, his lips brushing hers in a slow, deliberate kiss that tasted of bourbon, smoke, and absolute, undeniable surrender.
