Chapter 5 - The Fallout at the Boardroom TableBy noon, the emergency board meeting of Apex Defense Logistics was underway in a sterile, high-security conference room on the 10th floor.

The atmosphere was suffocating. Three senior board members—wealthy, powerful men in tailored suits who usually looked down on anyone outside their exclusive social circle—sat rigidly at the mahogany table, sweating under the glare of the recessed lighting.
I sat at the opposite end of the table, flanked by Special Agent Vance and two armed federal marshals.
On the center projector screen, in massive, unblinking letters, was a slide titled: AUDIT FINDINGS: FRAUD, EXTORTION, AND CLASSIFIED COMPROMISE.
“Gentlemen,” I began, my voice cold, steady, and devoid of any emotion. “Let’s dispense with the pleasantries. As of 11:45 a.m., the Department of Defense has officially suspended all active and pending contracts with Apex Defense Logistics, effective immediately.”
The oldest board member, a silver-haired executive named Arthur Sterling, slammed his hands down on the table, his face turning a furious shade of crimson.
“You can’t do that!” Sterling roared. “That’s a multi-million-dollar federal portfolio! You’re destroying a pillar of the defense supply chain over a—over a personal family dispute involving one of our middle managers!”
“Middle manager?” I raised an eyebrow, sliding a thick printed dossier across the table toward him. “Take a look at page four, Mr. Sterling. That ‘middle manager’ wasn't just managing logistics routes. He was running an illegal kickback scheme skimming 4.2 million dollars from military supply allocations over the last eighteen months.”
Sterling snatched the papers, his eyes scanning the financial tracking numbers. Every drop of color drained from his face.
“And that’s not even the best part,” I continued, leaning forward and resting my hands flat on the table. “Turn to page twelve. That’s where it gets interesting for you personally. Because when we seized Marcus’s private corporate safe this morning, we found documentation proving that your executive board was not only aware of his embezzlement, but actively used his domestic extortion tactics to silence whistleblowers within your own ranks.”
The other two board members looked at Sterling in absolute terror, realizing they had been completely exposed.
“You... you have no proof linking the board to his personal actions—” Sterling stammered, his voice cracking.
“We have encrypted email servers, offshore bank routing slips connecting directly to your personal holdings in the Caymans, and recorded phone calls of you congratulating Marcus on ‘handling’ internal company leaks,” Vance interjected smoothly, tossing a digital voice recorder onto the table right in front of Sterling.
The room fell into an absolute, suffocating tomb of silence.
“Here is how this is going to work,” I said, standing up to my full height and looking down at the broken executives. “You are going to sign a complete, unconditional corporate dissolution and asset forfeiture agreement within the next ten minutes. Every single individual involved in covering up Marcus’s crimes—and his domestic abuse—will be handed over to federal authorities without resistance.”
Sterling looked up at me, his eyes wide and pleading. “And if we don't?”
I offered him a thin, humorless smile.

“Then I walk out that door, hand this entire file directly to the Secretary of Defense, and ensure that every single one of you spends the next twenty years sharing a maximum-security federal prison block with people who really don't like corporate executives.”
Sterling slowly picked up the heavy gold pen, his hand shaking violently, and signed his name across the dotted line.
