Chapter 1 - THE TAPE THAT SHATTERED THE ALTAR

💥 SPOTTED AT BLACKTHORNE CASTLE: The 10-Second Video That Just Ruined A Billionaire Groom’s Entire Life! (You won't BELIEVE who was holding the camera!) 💥The silence inside Blackthorne Castle was no longer just quiet; it was suffocating. The heavy brass doors were locked from the outside. Nobody was leaving.

I looked from the silver flash drive in my hand to my fiancé, Julian. The man I was supposed to vow my life to. The man who, just three minutes ago, stood by and watched my stepmother drench my mother’s sacred gown in black ink without moving a single inch to protect me.

"Eleanor, darling," Julian said, his voice dropping into that smooth, manipulative baritone that had once made my knees weak. He took a step forward, his hands raised in a placating gesture. "This is getting out of hand. Look at you—you're emotional. The dress is ruined, and it's a tragedy, truly. But let’s not make a scene in front of our investors. Let’s take the drive to the back room."

"Stay exactly where you are, Julian," I said. My voice didn't shake. The humiliation that had burned my face just moments ago had completely evaporated, replaced by a cold, crystalline clarity.

"Eleanor, please," Celeste stammered, her voice cracking as she tried to pull away from the three security guards flanking her. "That drive... it's a fake. Your father was senile at the end! He didn't know what he was signing or recording. He was delusional!"

"Senile?" Noah, my best man, finally spoke up. He stepped between Julian and me, his broad shoulders forming an impenetrable wall. Noah had been my father’s most trusted protégé, a man who built his own tech empire from scratch under my father's guidance. "Arthur Vance was sharper than anyone in this room until his final breath, Celeste. And you know it."

Noah turned to the tech booth at the back of the ballroom. "Plug it in, Leo. Put it on the main projectors."

"No! Don't you dare!" Celeste shrieked, her expensive diamond bracelets clinking violently as she thrashed against the guards' grip.

Leo, the AV director who had known my father for twenty years, didn't hesitate. He took the silver drive from Noah. Within seconds, the massive dual projector screens—originally set up to show a romantic slideshow of Julian and me—flickered to life.

The image wasn't a slideshow. It was a high-definition video feed from a hidden security camera. The timestamp at the bottom read Four Months Ago—11:42 PM. It was the night before my father was admitted to the ICU for the final time.

The setting was my father’s private study inside the Vance Estate.

On screen, my father wasn't there. But someone else was.

The breath hitched in my throat. It was Julian. He was wearing his signature tailored navy suit, standing over my father’s mahogany desk. He wasn't looking for a wedding planner or a seating chart. He was systematically going through my father's private safe, pulling out stacks of bearer bonds and tossing them into a leather briefcase.

But he wasn't alone.

A second later, the door to the study opened on screen. Celeste walked in, wearing a silk robe, holding a glass of scotch.

The ballroom collective gasped. The audio kicked in, echoing through the massive castle speakers with terrifyingly crisp quality.

"Did you find the offshore routing numbers yet?" Celeste’s recorded voice demanded, sharp and venomous.

"Not yet," Julian’s recorded voice replied, his tone chillingly affectionate as he looked at my stepmother. "The old man hid them well. But it doesn't matter. Once I marry the fat, pathetic cow, everything automatically transfers to the joint marital trust anyway. Eleanor is so desperate for love she'd sign her own death warrant if I asked her nicely."

The ballroom went deathly quiet.

On screen, Celeste laughed—a horrific, throaty sound—and walked over to Julian. She didn't treat him like a future son-in-law. She wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him into a passionate, lingering kiss.

"Just make sure she doesn't suspect anything until the ring is on her finger," Celeste whispered against his lips on the screen. "Once the Vance empire is ours, we can finally send her away for good."

The video cut to black.

I stared at the screen, my heart freezing solid. The guests were completely frozen. The bridesmaids who had stepped away from me earlier looked as though they wanted to sink through the floorboards.

I turned slowly to look at Julian. The man I loved. The man who had spent the last two years telling me I was beautiful, telling me I was everything he ever wanted, while whispering to my stepmother behind closed doors about how "pathetic" I was.

Julian’s face was entirely bloodless. His eyes darted toward the locked exit doors.

"Eleanor..." Julian whispered, sweating through his custom tuxedo. "It’s... it’s a deepfake. AI generation. You know how powerful Noah’s tech company is! He framed me because he’s always been jealous of me!"

"A deepfake?" I repeated, taking a step toward him. The black ink on my gown dripped onto the white marble, leaving a trail like spilled blood. "My father didn't just leave a video, Julian. Look at what else was in the envelope."

I held up the small brass key.

"This opens the private vault beneath this very castle," I announced, my voice booming through the microphone Noah handed me. "The vault that contains the true, original ledger of the Vance Estate. The ledger that proves you and Celeste have already embezzled forty-two million dollars from my father's accounts over the last year."

Celeste collapsed to her knees, her face buried in her hands.

Julian, realizing his mask was completely shattered, dropped the fake, pleading persona. His expression turned ugly, his eyes narrowing into slits.

"So what?" Julian sneered, stepping closer, his voice dripping with malice. "You think you won, Eleanor? Look at you. You're a joke. Your dress is ruined, your wedding is a circus, and nobody in this room actually respects you. Even if we go down, you’re completely alone."

"She’s not alone," Noah’s voice rang out, steady and fierce. He stepped directly beside me, his hand resting gently on the small of my back, completely unbothered by the wet black ink. "And she never will be again."
