Chapter 3 - THE UNEXPECTED ALLY

🚨 EXCLUSIVE: After the most explosive wedding disaster in history, Eleanor Vance just made a secret alliance with the ONE MAN her family feared most! 🚨The ballroom was cleared within two hours. The guests had been escorted out by the FBI, their statements taken, their phones temporarily confiscated to preserve the integrity of the evidence.

The glittering chandeliers of Blackthorne Castle now shone down on an empty room. Broken glass, spilled champagne, and pools of black ink littered the pristine marble floor.

I sat on the steps of the altar, completely exhausted. The heavy, ruined silk of my mother's gown felt like a lead weight pressing down on me. I had won. The empire was safe. Celeste and Julian were behind bars.

But as I looked around the vast, silent room, a profound emptiness settled over me. I was twenty-six years old. My father was gone. My mother was gone. The man I thought I was going to build a life with was a monster.

"You're going to catch a cold sitting on the marble," a deep, familiar voice said.

I looked up. Noah was walking toward me, holding a warm wool coat and a paper cup of hot tea. He had stripped off his tuxedo jacket, his white dress shirt rolled up at the sleeves.

He knelt down beside me, gently wrapping the coat around my shoulders. He didn't care that the black ink immediately transferred onto the expensive fabric of his coat.

"Thank you," I whispered, taking the tea. My hands were shaking. "For everything, Noah. If you hadn't found that tech specialist to decode the drive so quickly..."

"I didn't do anything your father didn't plan for, Eleanor," Noah said softly, sitting down on the step next to me. "Arthur knew how strong you were. He always told me that out of everyone in the Vance family, you were the only one who inherited his iron spine."

I let out a bitter laugh, looking down at my body. "An iron spine in a plus-size frame that Celeste spent ten years making me feel ashamed of."

Noah reached out, his fingers gently catching my chin, forcing me to look at him. His dark eyes were burning with an intensity that made my breath catch.

"Don't ever let her voice stay in your head, Eleanor," he said, his voice dropping to a fierce whisper. "Celeste was terrified of you. She didn't insult your weight because she thought you were weak; she did it because she needed to break your confidence before you realized how powerful you actually are. You are stunning. You are brilliant. And tonight, you executed a corporate takedown that Wall Street will be talking about for the next decade."

A blush crept up my neck, warm and genuine for the first time all night. "What happens now? The board of directors is going to be in a panic by tomorrow morning. Julian and Celeste controlled three of our largest subsidiary companies."

"The board is already calling an emergency meeting for 9:00 AM," a new voice interrupted.

Noah and I both turned.

Walking down the center aisle of the ballroom was a man I never expected to see. He was wearing a sharp, charcoal-grey suit, his silver hair slicked back perfectly.

It was Alexander Sterling. The CEO of Sterling Industries—my father’s fiercest, most ruthless competitor. For twenty years, the Vance and Sterling families had been locked in a brutal corporate war.

Noah immediately stood up, his posture defensive. "Sterling. What are you doing here? This is private property, and the castle is a crime scene."

Alexander Sterling raised his hands in a gesture of peace, stopping a few feet away. He didn't look at Noah; his sharp blue eyes were locked entirely on me.

"I was invited by Arthur before he passed," Sterling said smoothly, reaching into his pocket and pulling out a sealed envelope. "He sent me a letter three months ago. He knew he wouldn't survive Celeste's 'care,' and he knew the board would try to devour Eleanor the moment he was gone."

Sterling handed the letter to me. I opened it quickly, recognizing my father’s shaky, elegant handwriting.

Eleanor, my darling, the letter read. If you are reading this, the trap has been sprung. Alexander Sterling is a ruthless man, but he is a man of honor. He hated me, but he respected my work. I have made a pact with him. In exchange for protecting you from the board of directors, he will merge Sterling Industries with Vance Global, creating an unstoppable monopoly. Trust him, Eleanor. He is the only wolf big enough to keep the other wolves away from you.

I looked up from the letter, stunned. "You and my father... made a deal?"

"We did," Alexander Sterling said, a faint, respectful smile appearing on his face. "Your father was a worthy adversary, Eleanor. I refuse to watch his life's work get torn apart by a bunch of cowardly board members who didn't have the guts to stand up to your stepmother. I’m here to offer you a partnership. A total merger."

Noah stepped forward, his eyes narrowing. "And what do you want in return, Sterling? We know you don't do anything out of charity."

Alexander looked at Noah, then back to me. "I want forty percent of the newly merged company. But more importantly, I want Eleanor to sit as the absolute Chairperson of the Board. I will handle the street; she will handle the empire. Together, we wipe out every single person who tried to ruin her tonight."

I stood up, the heavy silk of my dress rustling against the floor. I looked at the ink stain on my chest, then at Alexander Sterling, and finally at Noah.

The shy, broken girl who had walked down the aisle four hours ago was dead.

"Forty percent is too high, Mr. Sterling," I said, my voice cold and commanding. "You get thirty-five percent. And you help me liquidate every single asset owned by Julian Thorne and Celeste Vance by the end of the week."

Alexander Sterling’s eyes flared with sudden, deep respect. He extended his hand toward me.

"Deal, Miss Vance. Let's go to war."
