Chapter 3 - THE SEIGE OF WHITMORE MANOR

Viral Hook: The lights went out, the wolves came inside, and the billionaire had to choose between his billions or the little girl who called him uncle!"They're here for the drive," Lydia panicked, grabbing Annie from the cot. The little girl woke up with a gasp, her eyes wide with terror as she sensed the sudden shift in the room.
"Uncle Daniel?" Annie whispered, her small voice echoing in the concrete bunker.
The word hit Daniel like a physical blow. Uncle. He had spent years isolating himself in this massive, empty tomb of a house, believing he was the last of his line, mourning a brother he thought he could never save. Now, providence had delivered his brother's daughter directly to his doorstep in a snowstorm. He would die before he let anyone harm her.
"Listen to me, Annie," Daniel said, crouching down to her eye level. "You are safe with me. I need you and your mommy to stay right here with Harold. Do you trust me?"
Annie nodded slowly, reaching out her tiny, raw hand to touch Daniel's cheek. "Don't let the bad men take my daddy's coat."
"Never," Daniel vowed.
Leaving Harold to guard the bunker's single entrance, Daniel took a shotgun from the wall armory and ascended into the darkened mansion. The opulence of the twenty-room house now felt like a labyrinth of death. The grand chandeliers were dark, the marble floors cold. Through the massive glass windows of the foyer, he could see the shadows of armed men moving through the swirling snow.
A heavy crash echoed from the kitchen. They were inside.
Daniel slipped into the shadows of the grand staircase. He heard the muffled voices of two men entering the foyer, their flashlights cutting through the dark.
"Find the woman and the kid," one muttered. "The boss said no witnesses. If Whitmore gets in the way, make it look like a home invasion gone wrong."

Daniel didn’t hesitate. He stepped out from behind the pillar, the shotgun roaring in the enclosed space. The blast threw the first intruder backward through the glass double doors. The second man fired wildly, his submachine gun chewing up the priceless paintings on the wall. Daniel dove behind the marble kitchen island, glass showering over his head.
"You can't hide forever, Whitmore!" the shooter yelled. "Your uncle sends his regards. He wants his company back!"
