Chapter 4 - The Puppet Master's Fall

The deportation holding cell at Miami International Airport lacked marble floors. There were no mimosas. There was only a stainless-steel toilet, a flickering fluorescent light, and the overwhelming smell of bleach. Doña Teresa sat on a concrete bench, her perfectly styled hair now matted and ruined, her expensive linen outfit stained with sweat.
"This is a mistake," she kept muttering, her fingernails digging into her palms. "Valeria wouldn't dare. She loves you, Rodrigo. She worships this family!"
Rodrigo sat on the floor in the corner, his head between his knees, weeping openly. "She doesn't love us anymore, Mom. We left her to die. I locked the door. I locked it."
"Shut up, you coward!" Ximena screamed at her brother. "This is your fault! If you hadn't taken so long to pack, we would have been through customs before the warrant was uploaded!"
By the time they were marched onto a return flight to Monterrey under armed escort, the story had already gone nuclear online. Mateo hadn't just called the police; he had leaked the security camera footage from the San Pedro mansion to the press. The video of Rodrigo locking the deadbolts while Valeria’s agonizing screams could be heard from the interior intercom had been viewed 40 million times.
When the plane landed back in Nuevo León, the terminal wasn't empty. A wall of reporters, flashing cameras, and furious protestors holding signs that read "Justice for Valeria" greeted them.
As they walked out in handcuffs, Doña Teresa spotted a familiar figure standing near the exit. It was Mateo. And beside him was a team of forensic accountants and high-profile criminal attorneys.
Mateo walked up to his mother, his face expressionless. He held up a smartphone, displaying a live banking app interface.

"What did you do?" Teresa hissed through cracked lips.
"Valeria revoked your access to every single account, corporate entity, and trust fund three hours ago," Mateo said softly, the satisfaction dripping from his voice. "The $7,000 trip was just the beginning. Did you forget that the San Pedro mansion is registered under Valeria’s holding company? You don't have a home to go back to, Mother. The locks have been changed. And this time, you’re the ones locked out."
