Chapter 5 - The Uninvited Guest“You insane bitch!” Celeste shrieked, dropping her bouquet of white orchids as she stumbled forward, her champagne lace gown rustling aggressively. “You brought a baby to our wedding just to ruin my special day? Get her out of here! She’s mentally unstable, Adrian! She’s barren, remember? That baby isn’t even hers—she probably stole it from a hospital!”
That did it. The entire church went dead silent. Even the string quartet stopped mid-note.
I walked down the central aisle at a slow, measured pace, the heels of my Christian Louboutins clicking sharply against the marble floor like a ticking clock.
“Stole a baby, Celeste?” I asked softly, stopping ten feet away from the altar. I gently pulled back the cashmere blanket, revealing Elena’s tiny, sleeping face. The morning light hit her features—the distinct slope of the nose, the shape of the chin.
Gasps rippled through the front pews, particularly from Adrian’s business partners who had known him for a decade.
“Look at her, Adrian,” I said, locking my gaze onto my ex-husband, who was now trembling so violently his cuffs were rattling. “Take a good, hard look. You told me my womb was broken. You told the court I couldn’t give you an heir. But biology is a funny, stubborn thing. She was born eight weeks ago. Exactly nine months after the night you came to my apartment begging for forgiveness—and a whiskey.”
Adrian staggered backward, crashing into the flower arrangement. “No… no, that’s impossible. You said you miscarried—you said—”
“I lied,” I smiled coldly. “Because the moment I found out I was pregnant, my lawyer discovered you were already transferring our assets to Celeste and drafting divorce papers behind my back. I wasn’t going to let you touch my child with your toxic, bleeding hands.”

“Lies! All lies!” Celeste screamed, tears of pure rage streaming down her face as she grabbed Adrian’s arm. “Tell her she’s lying, Adrian! Tell everyone she’s a psycho!”
Before Adrian could speak, heavy footsteps echoed from the back of the cathedral.
