Chapter 11 - Ashes to Ashes (The Ultimate Finale)The deafening crack of Rico’s Sig Sauer shattered the silence of the underground armory. Vincent didn't even have time to scream. He collapsed backward onto the cold concrete floor, a pool of dark blood spreading rapidly beneath his tailored suit.

Rico slowly lowered his weapon, the smoke curling lazily into the damp air. He didn't look at the body. Instead, his icy eyes locked onto Clara, who stood unshaken amidst the chaos, her hands crossed over her chest.

"It's over," Rico said quietly, walking toward her. "The rats are cleaned out. The Moretti syndicate is finally clean."

"Clean?" Clara let out a harsh, bitter laugh. "Rico, you're sitting on a throne built on skulls. You can't just clean a syndicate with a few bullets."

"Maybe not," Rico admitted, stopping just inches from her. He reached out and gently pulled the messy hair tie from her hair, letting her long, dark locks cascade down her shoulders—mirroring the exact way Elena used to wear her hair. "But I can change what it protects."

Clara looked up into his eyes, searching for the monster she had expected to find, but finding only a profound, aching emptiness that mirrored her own.

"What happens to me now?" she asked softly. "Do I go back to waitressing?"

Rico shook his head slowly, a faint, rare smile touching his lips. "You never were just a waitress, Clara Vance. You're the only person in New York who brought the Butcher of Brooklyn to his knees with a glass of warm milk."

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, velvet box, sliding it open to reveal the recovered locket—gleaming brightly under the harsh armory lights.

"Stay," Rico whispered, his voice intense and undeniable. "Help me raise my son. Help me build something that won't burn to the ground."

Clara looked down at the locket, then over at the heavy elevator doors leading back up to the sunlight where little Leo was waiting upstairs. The storm had finally passed, and in the ashes of the mafia empire, an impossible new beginning rose from the smoke.

She took a slow breath, reached out, and took the locket from his hand.

"Only if I'm the one making the rules," Clara said with a fierce, triumphant smirk.
