Chapter 1 - The First KnockThe heavy oak front door shuddered under a barrage of authoritative fists before the doorbells even finished chiming their second chime.

"Open the door! Miami Police Department!"
The voice boomed through the high-ceilinged foyer, bouncing off the marble pillars like a physical blow. Down in the guest room, the air felt dense, smelling faintly of old paper, iron, and the sudden, electric snap of adrenaline.
My knees felt hollow. My entire life—the empire I built, the wife who betrayed me, the friends who spit on my grave—condensed into this single, impossible room. Piles of shrink-wrapped $100 bills sat on the mattress like sacrificial offerings. Open filing boxes spilled corporate seals, international wire receipts, and signature verification cards bearing Vanessa’s looping, elegant handwriting.
And right beside them, Harold Bennett’s name stared back at me from a notarized offshore shell-company agreement dated three days before my accounts were frozen.
"Edward! Open the door or we are breaching!"
Rosa didn’t flinch. While the front door groaned under the first heavy kick of a battering ram, she reached out and grasped my trembling forearm with fingers that were remarkably steady.
"Listen to me very carefully, Mr. Calloway," she whispered, her voice cutting through the rising chaos like a scalpel. "The police are not here because you stole. They are here because they planted this back into your house to finish you. But they made one fatal mistake."
"What mistake?" I managed to choke out, my throat closing up.
"They didn't realize I was cleaning the study when Harold's wife dropped her tablet three weeks ago," Rosa said, her dark eyes flashing with a cold, terrifying brilliance. "And they didn't know I have the cloud backups of every single security camera, wiretap, and email server this house ever recorded."
Bang!
The front lock shattered. Heavy boots hit the marble floor.

"Clear the ground floor! Check the perimeter!"
Rosa shoved a heavy encrypted hard drive into the inside pocket of my gray suit jacket. "Put your hands on your head, Mr. Calloway. Let them walk in here. Let them think they've won. Because the real trap hasn't even sprung yet."
