Chapter 3 - THE SECRET CORRESPONDENCEThat night, while Alessandro was locked in his private study managing emergency security protocols across the city, I couldn't sleep.

I paced the length of the penthouse, my hand resting protectively over my stomach. The photograph of my father standing with Alessandro kept playing in my mind. Why had my father investigated the Vitalis before he died? And why had Alessandro looked so shocked when he saw his face in that old clipping?

Unable to stand the silence, I crept toward Alessandro’s study. The heavy oak door was cracked open a few inches, casting a warm sliver of light across the hallway floor.

"...find out who authorized the hit on Hale's daughter," Alessandro was saying into his secure satellite phone, his voice cold enough to freeze glass. "If my uncle Dominic had anything to do with it, I will strip him of every asset he owns before morning."

Uncle Dominic.

The name echoed in my head. My father’s final message: Obsidian. Vitali. Trust no one.

My father hadn't been investigating Alessandro. He had been investigating Alessandro’s uncle—the man who controlled the board of directors, the man who wanted the family throne for his own children.
