Chapter 4 - THE BETRAYAL UNMASKEDBefore I could back away from the door, a heavy hand gripped my shoulder.

I gasped, spinning around.

Standing behind me in the shadows of the hallway was a man I had seen twice before at hotel functions—Marcus Vance, Alessandro’s chief of security and the head of the Obsidian private guard.

Except right now, Marcus wasn't wearing his security pin. He was holding a suppressed automatic pistol, and his smile was chilling.

"Well, well," Marcus murmured softly, pressing the barrel of the gun lightly against my ribs. "The little waitress who knew too much. Mr. Vitali is so busy looking for ghosts that he didn't realize the executioner was standing right outside his door."

"You... you're working for Dominic," I breathed, my heart hammering against my ribs.

"Dominic pays very well for heirs to be... redirected," Marcus replied, his eyes gleaming with malice. "And now, we're going to take a little walk out the service elevator before your boyfriend finishes his phone call."
