Chapter 3 - The Accountant’s TrapArthur stepped closer, holding out his hand expectantly. The diamond ring on his pinky finger caught the weak amber flare of a dying emergency light.

"The flash drive, Elena. Don't be a sentimental fool. Your mother is already packing her bags for the Cayman Islands, and your father is liquidating the last of the straw companies. You can't win against an institution that wrote the laws you're trying to use to cage us."

I looked down at the titanium drive in my hand. My fingers brushed the cold metal.

For a fraction of a second, I let my shoulders slump. I let my breathing hitch, mimicking the pathetic, defeated posture of a woman who had lost everything—her home, her family, her dignity, and now her child.

Derek watched me with a look of supreme, arrogant amusement. "I always knew you were practical, El. Hand it over. We'll let you visit the girl on holidays. Once she's old enough to understand her true pedigree, she won't even remember your face anyway."

I took a slow, deliberate step forward, lifting my hand as if to drop the drive into Arthur’s outstretched palm.

Arthur smirked, his fingers curling open to receive the device. "Smart girl. Welcome to the rea—"

Click. Whir. BEEP.

Suddenly, every single light in the subterranean parking garage flashed blindingly bright white. The emergency generators didn't just kick in—they roared to life with deafening power, syncing up with an automated public-address system echoing throughout the entire hospital complex.

Derek’s smug smile instantly vanished. His head snapped toward the Maybach dashboard.

The onboard GPS and multi-media screens flickered off, replaced instantly by a flashing red federal seal: SEC-CYBER-CRIME DIVISION: ACTIVE INTERCEPT.

"What is this?" Arthur snapped, his hand dropping as he grabbed at his coat pocket for his satellite phone. It was completely dead, locked in a digital loop.

I pulled my hand back, slipping the titanium drive safely into my inner coat pocket, and let out a cold, venomous laugh that echoed off the concrete walls.

"You alphabeta sociopaths really think a forensic accountant walks into a trap without auditing the perimeter first?" I stepped forward, towering over Arthur despite my torn, blood-soaked dress. "You didn't cut the hospital's power grid, Arthur. You just triggered the automated smart-diagnostic routine that I programmed into the federal server three weeks ago the moment I found Grandma’s forged signature."

Valerie’s radio suddenly screeched back to life with a flood of crisp, loud police dispatch chatter.

"All units, all units! Federal warrant execution in progress. Target locations in the Cayman Islands, Zurich, and Geneva have been successfully frozen by Interpol. Primary suspects detained at the domestic properties!"

Derek lunged forward, his face contorted in pure, unadulterated panic, reaching for my throat. "You bitch! You set us up!"

Before his fingers could even graze my collar, Valerie’s boot swept his legs out from under him with brutal, tactical efficiency. Derek hit the concrete floor face-first, a sickening crunch echoing as his nose shattered against the hard foundation.

Valerie pressed her knee firmly into the center of his spine, snapping steel handcuffs onto his wrists with bone-jarring force.

"You have the right to remain silent, asshole," Valerie whispered into his ear. "Trust me, you're going to need it."
