Chapter 6 - The InvestigationWhile Clara recovered under the watchful eye of the hospital staff, Cameron didn't return to his penthouse. Instead, he deployed his private investigators to look into the cleaning company where Clara spent her nights.

What they uncovered made his blood boil.
The commercial cleaning contractor, Apex Sanitation Services, was a subsidiary of West Capital—one of the shell companies managed by none other than Richard Vance to skim corporate maintenance costs. They were paying workers below minimum wage, denying overtime, and forcing single mothers like Clara to work eighty-hour weeks under threat of termination.
Cameron sat in his parked car outside the hospital, staring at the financial reports on his tablet.
For years, he had prided himself on being a visionary. Now, he realized he had built a gilded cage that crushed the very people who kept the floors clean and the lights on.
His phone buzzed. It was Richard.
“The board voted, Cameron,” Richard sneered over the line. “You’re out. I’m the new CEO of West Capital as of ten minutes ago. Security is locking you out of your office right now.”
Cameron smiled—a cold, dangerous smile. “Enjoy the chair, Richard. Because by tomorrow morning, you won't just be losing an office. You’ll be facing a federal labor audit and a multi-million-dollar class-action lawsuit.”

“You can’t do that! You own half this firm!”
“Not anymore,” Cameron said. “I just liquidated my remaining shares to fund a workers' restitution trust. Starting with Clara Scott.”
