Chapter 10 - DRAWING IN THE DETAILSTwo weeks later.

The morning sun streamed brightly through the windows of a brand-new, heavily fortified estate overlooking the Hudson River—a home designed with state-of-the-art security, expansive gardens, and safety built into every square inch.

Adrian sat at the large oak dining table, drinking his coffee in peace.

Footsteps padded softly across the hardwood floor. Little Lily walked into the kitchen wearing a bright red dress, holding a brand-new box of colored markers and a fresh sheet of white paper.

She climbed up onto the chair right next to Adrian, looking up at him with a wide, radiant smile.

"Daddy?" she asked brightly.

Adrian smiled, turning his full attention to his daughter. "Yes, princess?"

Lily slid the paper across the table toward him.

Adrian looked down. It was another family drawing: a house with a red roof, a smiling woman with long brown hair, a tall stick-figure man standing proudly beside them...

And this time, the man had a face. Detailed eyes, a warm smile, and neat dark hair drawn with careful, loving strokes using a black marker.

Lily picked up a red marker and carefully drew a small heart right in the center of the man's chest.

"I finished it," Lily said proudly, looking up into Adrian’s tear-filled eyes. "You don't have a blank face anymore. You're home."

Adrian choked back a sob of pure, unadulterated joy, reaching out to wrap his arms around his daughter and pulling her close, while Sarah walked into the kitchen behind them, wrapping her arms around both of them with a smile that felt like sunshine after a long, brutal winter.

The shadows were gone. The faceless man was finally home.
