Chapter 7 - THE RICE QUARRY RUNThe cool night air hit them like a physical blow as Adrian sprinted across the overgrown backyard toward the dense tree line leading to the abandoned stone quarry.

Heavy automatic gunfire zipped through the branches above their heads, snapping twigs and tearing bark from the ancient oaks.

"Keep moving!" Adrian yelled, shielding Sarah with his own body as they plunged into the dark forest trail.

His shoulder screamed in agony. The sudden physical exertion had torn the stitches open beneath his suit jacket, and warm blood began soaking through his shirt. But Adrian didn't slow down for a single second. His daughter was in his arms; the woman he loved was holding his hand. He would die before letting anything touch them.

Out of the darkness of the trees, two masked gunmen stepped into their path, assault rifles raised!

Adrian didn't hesitate. He set Lily down behind a thick boulder, drew his pistol in one fluid motion, and fired twice.

Bang! Bang!

Both assailants dropped instantly into the dirt.

"Daddy!" Lily cried out in terror from behind the rock.

Adrian scooped her back into his arms in a heartbeat, grabbing Sarah’s hand again. "I've got you, baby. We're almost there."

Breaking through the tree line, the blinding searchlight of Vincent’s armored extraction SUV cut through the darkness. The side door slid open, revealing Vincent firing a submachine gun toward the pursuing enemies in the distance.

"Get in! Go, go, go!" Vincent roared.

Adrian shoved Sarah inside first, then climbed in with Lily clutched tightly to his chest as the vehicle tore forward, kicking up a storm of gravel and dust.
