Chapter 4 - THE SHADOWS AT THE PERIMETERTen miles away, in a dimly lit warehouse overlooking the East River, Dimitry Volkov slammed his crystal glass against the brick wall, shattering it into a thousand glittering pieces.

"What do you mean he’s not in the hospital?!" Volkov roared at his lead enforcer, a hulking brute named Viktor.

"We had eyes on his private room around the clock, boss," Viktor replied nervously, rubbing the back of his neck. "Two hours ago, Moretti checked himself out against medical advice. Our snipers missed him by ten minutes. He used an armored decoy convoy."

Volkov’s eyes narrowed into slits of pure venom. "He thinks he can hide in the suburbs with his little girlfriend and that bastard child of his? Find them."

"Boss, the girl and the mother... they're ghosts," Viktor cautioned. "Nobody outside his inner circle knows where they live."

"Moretti made a mistake," Volkov sneered, a cruel, predatory smile spreading across his scarred face. "A wounded animal always returns to its den. And when Moretti bleeds out this time, I want his daughter watching."
