Chapter 4 - The Boardroom CoupWhile Warren found a fragile, painful sense of redemption in the penthouse, across the city in a high-rise office building, a very different conversation was taking place.

Marcus Sterling, Warren’s senior vice president and the man who had managed Hail Enterprises’ daily operations during Warren’s prolonged grief, paced angrily across his plush carpeted office.

He slammed a financial report onto his desk, glaring at his chief legal counsel, Arthur Vance.

“He’s losing his mind, Arthur!” Marcus snarled. “Did you see the latest internal audit? Warren is setting up a multi-million-dollar trust fund under a completely unknown name—Jenna Marsh. And he hasn’t approved a single new real estate acquisition in three weeks!”

Arthur adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses, a cold, calculating smile spreading across his face. “If Warren is abandoning his duties to play foster father to a street urchin, then the board has all the legal grounds we need to invoke Section 8 of the corporate charter.”

Marcus stopped pacing, his eyes narrowing. “Incapacity due to emotional distress.”

“Exactly,” Arthur nodded smoothly. “With Warren removed, you step in as interim CEO, Marcus. We liquidate his personal holdings, push through the harbor development deal without community oversight, and take full control of Hail Enterprises before the end of the quarter.”

Marcus laughed softly, staring out at the skyline. “The great Warren Hail thought his empire was invincible. He just forgot that in business, grief is a fatal weakness.”
