Chapter 2 - THE DIGITAL PAPER TRAILBy 11:00 AM, I was deep into the digital infrastructure of Daniel’s life.

Before I retired from the federal compliance bureau to focus on our marriage, I spent over a decade tracking white-collar criminals, offshore shell companies, and medical tampering conspiracies.

Daniel was an amateur playing a grandmaster's game.

I accessed his personal cloud drive—mirrored instantly to my secure off-site server—and downloaded every single digital receipt.

There were pharmacy orders for experimental starch-based binders shipped from a sketchy distributor in New Jersey. There were encrypted messaging logs between Daniel and Vanessa Crane, planning out luxury vacations they intended to fund with my father’s trust.

And, most damning of all, there was a scanned PDF of a forged secondary will, signed with a notary seal that belonged to a disgraced legal clerk currently serving time for document fraud.

Daniel had systematically laid every brick of his own gallows.

I didn't call the police. Not yet.

If you bring down a hammer too early, the criminal simply pays a high-priced defense attorney and walks away on a technicality. I wanted an ironclad cage from which there was no escape.
