Chapter 4 - THE HOSPITAL CONFRONTATIONTwo hours later, I sat up in my hospital bed, resting against a stack of pillows while an IV dripped genuine, life-saving cardiac medication into my veins.

The door to my private room clicked open.

Dr. Harris walked in, holding a thick medical file. Behind him stood Special Agent Marcus Vance from the Federal Healthcare Fraud Unit, alongside two uniform hospital security guards.

Daniel, who had been pacing anxiously near the window, stopped dead in his tracks.

"What is this?" Daniel demanded, forcing an indignant frown. "Why are federal agents in my wife's hospital room?!"

Agent Vance didn't look at Daniel. He walked straight to my bedside, offering me a respectful nod.

"Good afternoon, Claire. It's good to see your color coming back," Vance said, before turning his sharp gaze toward my husband.

"Daniel Whitmore," Vance announced, pulling a federal warrant from his jacket. "You are being detained for questioning regarding premeditated medical tampering, wire fraud, and conspiracy to commit murder."

Daniel let out a harsh, nervous laugh, throwing his hands up in disbelief. "Murder?! Are you insane?! My wife has a terminal heart condition! She's delusional!"

"I'm not delusional, Daniel," I said softly, my voice carrying a crystal-clear strength that made him freeze.

I reached over to my bedside table, opened my leather handbag, and pulled out a thick manila folder containing copies of every pharmacy receipt, offshore message log, and the scanned forged will.

"Meet my old colleagues from the federal compliance bureau," I continued, looking him dead in the eye. "You thought you were poisoning a helpless housewife. You were actually poisoning a trained investigator who documented every single drop of sugar water and fake pill you gave me."
