Chapter 1 - THE REVELATION IN THE ALCOVE

"The Billionaire Mafia Boss Just Dropped to His Knees—And It Wasn’t for His Fiancée."The silence in Belladonna didn’t just grow; it solidified. It became a heavy, suffocating thing that pressed against the lungs of every elite diner in the room.

Nico Bellandi, the undisputed king of the city’s underground, a man whose name was whispered like a curse in boardrooms and back alleys alike, froze mid-stride. The effortless charm that usually clung to his tailored charcoal suit vanished, replaced by a raw, terrifying stillness.

Viviana Greco smirked, misinterpreting his sudden tension. She smoothed the lapel of her white cashmere coat, her diamond-encrusted fingers gleaming under the gold chandelier. "Nico, darling," she purred, her voice dripping with venomous satisfaction. "You’re just in time. The management here has truly degraded. They’ve sent a miserable, swollen peasant to tend to my table. She was just being incredibly disrespectful. Have her ruined, will you?"

Nico didn't look at Viviana. He didn't look at the manager, Marco, who was currently sweating through his tuxedo shirt by the kitchen doors.

His eyes were locked entirely on Nora.

Nora felt the room tilt. Her thirty-two-week pregnant belly felt suddenly heavy, her heart hammering against her ribs like a trapped bird. She held the crystal water pitcher so tightly her knuckles turned translucent. She knew Nico Bellandi. But not as the ruthless mafia don the papers warned about.

To her, three quarters of a year ago, he was just "Nick"—a man with hauntingly sad eyes, a devastating smile, and a tenderness that had healed the broken pieces of her heart over the course of one unforgettable, whirlwind month before he vanished without a trace.

"Nick?" Nora whispered, the word slipping past her lips before she could stop it.

The entire restaurant seemed to gasp. Calling a Bellandi by a nickname was a death sentence. Viviana’s face contorted into pure rage. "How dare you speak to—"

"Nora," Nico breathed.

Before Viviana could finish her sentence, Nico moved. He didn't walk; he strode with a desperate, frantic urgency that no one had ever seen from the calculating boss. He bypassed Viviana entirely. He didn't even glance at his glamorous fiancée.

Instead, Nico Bellandi—the man who knelt to no one—dropped to one knee right there on the pristine hardwood floor of Belladonna.

He didn't kneel in submission to a threat. He knelt so he could be eye-level with Nora’s swollen belly. His hands, usually steady enough to hold a firearm without a tremor, were shaking violently as he reached out, pausing just inches away from her apron.

"Is it... is it mine?" Nico’s voice broke, completely stripped of its terrifying authority.

Nora looked down at him, tears stinging her eyes, a bitter laugh bubbling up her throat. "Well, Nico, considering I haven’t been with a ghost since you walked out of my apartment eight months ago, yes. She's yours. But right now, she’s kicking my ribs because I’ve been standing on a broken ankle for twenty minutes."

Viviana stood up so fast her chair screeched against the floor. "Nico! What is the meaning of this? Who is this disgusting woman?!"

Nico rose to his full height. The vulnerability vanished in a fraction of a second. When he turned to face Viviana, his eyes were cold, dead, and lethal.

"Watch your mouth," Nico said, his voice dropping into a register that made the restaurant managers instantly reach for the panic buttons. "Because you are looking at the mother of my heir. And if you speak to her like that again, the alliance between our families won't be the only thing that dies tonight."
