Chapter 3 - THE HIGH-SOCIETY TRAP

"The Ultrasound Under Guard—And the Elegant Traitor in the Shadows."Three weeks had passed since the incident at Belladonna. Nora was no longer a waitress in a stained apron; she was a golden prisoner in a heavily fortified estate overlooking the ocean. She wore silk gowns, ate food prepared by Michelin-starred chefs, and was monitored by Dr. Evans, a top-tier OBGYN on Nico's payroll.

Yet, she felt more suffocated than ever.

Nico was rarely there. He was fighting a multi-front war. The Grecos had begun striking his supply lines, hitting his shipping docks, and freezing his legitimate bank accounts.

"You need to rest, Nora," Nico said, walking into the medical wing of the estate just as Dr. Evans was applying the cold gel to her stomach. Nico looked exhausted, dark circles bruising the skin under his eyes, but his gaze softened the moment he looked at her.

"I can't rest while I'm locked in a golden cage, Nico," Nora sighed.

Suddenly, the monitor beeped. The rhythmic, rapid thump-thump-thump of a healthy fetal heartbeat filled the room. Nico froze. His eyes widened, and a slow, beautiful smile broke across his face—the same genuine smile Nora had fallen in love with months ago. He reached out, his large hand gently covering hers.

"She’s strong," Nico whispered. "Just like her mother."

"She has your stubbornness," Nora murmured, finally letting her guard down for a fraction of a second.

But the peace was shattered when the heavy oak doors of the room burst open. It wasn't an assassin. It was Nico’s own mother, the formidable Matriarch Isabella Bellandi. Behind her stood three armed guards.

Isabella looked at Nora with a cold, evaluating gaze. "Nico. We need to talk. Alone."

Nora tried to sit up, but Nico kept his hand on her shoulder. "Anything you have to say to me, Mother, you can say in front of Nora."

Isabella sneered. "You are destroying our legacy for a nobody! The Grecos are bleeding us dry. The minor families are starting to rebel because they think you've gone soft for a pregnant servant. If this child is born out of wedlock, the syndicate will never accept her as your heir. They will view her as a weakness."

"She is my blood!" Nico roared, standing up.

"Then legitimize her the proper way," Isabella countered, her voice dangerously smooth. "Keep the girl as a mistress if you must. But you will marry Viviana Greco next week. If you do not, I will personally step in, remove this girl from the estate, and handle the situation myself. For the good of the family."

Nora's blood ran cold. The threat wasn't just coming from the enemy outside the gates. The threat was sitting right inside the family dinner table.
