Chapter 5 - A Mother's Fury

Alexander’s heart stopped. He had sent Liam to a supposedly safe penthouse, guarded by his most trusted security details. He immediately called the penthouse head of security. The phone just rang and rang. No answer.
Alexander dashed out of the warehouse, dialing his team, his mind racing with panic. He called Elena at the hospital to warn her, but the hospital line was dead.
Back at the hospital, Elena was sitting up in bed when the door slowly opened.
Amelia walked in. She was wearing a soft, pastel pink coat, looking like an angel. But in her right hand, she held a silenced pistol. Behind her, two large men entered, carrying a heavy duffel bag.
"Hello, Elena," Amelia said, her voice sweet and childlike. "You really are resilient, aren't you? Sofia failed miserably. I guess if you want a job done right, you have to do it yourself."
"Where is Liam?" Elena demanded, trying to get out of bed, but her body was still too weak from the poison.
Amelia giggled, a chilling, psychotic sound. "Oh, little Liam is safe in the car downstairs. He's such a sweet boy. He'll make a wonderful son for me once you're gone and Alexander realizes I’m the only one left to comfort him. You see, I killed his first wife because she was in my way. Then you, a filthy maid, stole my spot. I can't let that slide."
Amelia raised the gun, aiming it straight at Elena’s forehead. "Goodbye, Cinderella."
BANG!
The door to the hospital room violently flew open, slamming against the wall. But it wasn't Alexander. It was Isabella.
Isabella was holding a heavy fire extinguisher, which she swung with brutal force into the side of Amelia’s face. Amelia cried out as her nose shattered, the gun flying out of her hand and skittering across the floor.
"You psychotic bitch!" Isabella screamed, tackling Amelia to the ground. "You framed my family for your corporate espionage, and you tried to kill a child! I may be a snob, Amelia, but I am not a murderer!"
The two high-society women engaged in a vicious, bloody brawl on the hospital floor. Elena, gathering every ounce of strength left in her body, crawled out of the bed. She grabbed the fallen gun.
"Stop!" Elena yelled, her voice raw, aiming the gun at Amelia's men who were about to intervene. The men froze, seeing the absolute fire in the eyes of a mother defending her child.
Seconds later, Alexander burst into the room with a dozen armed guards. The situation was instantly contained. Amelia’s men were disarmed, and Amelia was pinned to the floor, her face covered in blood, screaming profanities.

Alexander ran to Elena, pulling her into his arms. "Are you okay? Where is Liam?"
"Downstairs! In a car!" Elena cried.
