Chapter 10 - The Ultimate DawnThe rain had finally cleared by 5:00 a.m., leaving behind a crisp, washed-blue Manhattan sky as the first rays of golden sunlight spilled across the East River.

The living room was quiet again. Federal agents and local police had hauled Victor Vance and his associates away in handcuffs, their international conspiracy dismantled in a matter of hours through Julian’s emergency back-channels and political leverage. Mercer Global’s legal team had already filed emergency injunctions freezing all of Victor’s offshore assets, ensuring Isabel’s inheritance was legally protected forever.
Julian stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, his shirt sleeves rolled up, a cup of black coffee in his hand.
The heavy steel door of the panic room clicked open. Isabel stepped out, holding Mateo, who was still rubbing his sleepy eyes against her shoulder.
"Is the scary man gone?" the boy mumbled softly, burying his face in his mother's neck.
"He's gone, sweetheart," Isabel whispered, kissing his forehead. She looked up and met Julian’s gaze across the room.
Julian walked over, kneeling gently in front of Mateo. He pulled the small leather bracelet—the one carved with his own initials, J. M.—out of his pocket and held it out on his open palm.
"Hey, Mateo," Julian said softly, his voice gentle and warm. "I think you dropped this in the park."
Mateo blinked his big gray eyes, looking from the bracelet up to Julian's face, then back down. A bright, gap-toothed smile spread across the boy's face. "You have the same eyes as me."
Julian laughed—a deep, genuine sound that he hadn't made in six years. He reached out and gently ruffled the boy's dark hair. "Yeah, buddy. I think I do."
Isabel walked over, standing beside Julian. She slid her hand into his free hand, her fingers interlocking naturally with his. The cold armor of the billionaire empire was gone, replaced by something far stronger: a family reunited.
"So," Isabel whispered, a soft smile touching her lips as the golden morning sun washed over them. "What’s the plan for today, Mr. Mercer?"

Julian looked from Isabel to his son, and then out at the sprawling, beautiful city waiting at their feet.
"First, we go check out that West Village brownstone," Julian said, pulling them both a little closer. "And then... we teach Rex how to play catch."
