Chapter 5 - The Corporate CoupAt 12:15 p.m., the seventy-second-floor boardroom of Mercer Global Enterprises was a pressure cooker.

Thirteen board members sat around the massive mahogany table. At the head of the table sat Richard Sterling, a smug grin plastered across his face as he tapped a gold fountain pen against the blotter.
"It appears," Richard announced loudly, projecting his voice across the room, "that our esteemed CEO, Mr. Mercer, is currently indisposed with... personal matters. Given his absence during this critical quorum, and his failure to secure the regulatory signatures for the Singapore logistics hub, I move that we invoke Clause 14-B of the corporate charter to suspend his executive powers immediately."
Murmurs rippled through the room. Several board members nodded in agreement, swayed by Richard’s slick presentation and promises of higher immediate dividends.
"I second the motion," said Marcus Vance, a senior partner loyal to Sterling. "Julian has lost his edge. He's distracted."
"Is he?"
The heavy walnut doors of the boardroom swung open with a sharp, echoing bang.
Julian Mercer walked in. He didn't look like a man distracted by personal matters. He wore his armor—a crisp, dark suit, his tie knotted with surgical precision, and his eyes flashing with absolute, terrifying calm. Behind him walked his chief legal counsel carrying a stack of thick red files.
Richard’s smug grin faltered for a split second before he recovered. "Ah, Julian. Look who decided to grace us with his presence. Unfortunately, you're five minutes late for the vote."
"Am I, Richard?" Julian walked slowly toward the head of the table, his footsteps echoing on the polished marble floor. He didn't take the CEO chair; instead, he stood right beside Richard, leaning down slightly so his voice carried across the room. "You assumed I was distracted because my P.I. tracked your offshore shell accounts in the Caymans last night."
Richard’s face drained of color. "What are you talking about?"
Julian signaled his legal counsel, who slammed a thick dossier down onto the table right in front of Richard. "Clause 14-B requires board members to act in good faith. Embezzling corporate funds through a front company in Singapore to sabotage our own logistics hub, however... that’s federal securities fraud."
The board room erupted into chaos. Shouts echoed across the room as members grabbed the documents, revealing bank routing numbers, shell company registries, and signed wire transfers bearing Richard Sterling’s personal seal.

Julian straightened his jacket, his gray eyes sweeping across the terrified faces of the traitors. "The vote is canceled. Security, please escort Mr. Sterling out of my building."
As two burly security guards grabbed Richard by the arms and dragged him screaming toward the exit, Julian didn't even blink. He turned his gaze to the remaining board members. "Meeting adjourned."
