Chapter 3 - The Hunt and the Mastermind

The Billionaire Unchained"If a single scratch is found on my son," Declan Mercer said into his satellite phone, his voice so quiet it was terrifying, "I will systematically bankrupt every vendor, every bank, and every shell company associated with the Mercer name. I will burn the board to the ground with all of you inside it."

He slammed the phone down and turned to Marin, who was hyperventilating in the back of his armored SUV. The vehicle was tearing down the highway at breakneck speeds, flanked by three security motorcycles.

"We’ll get him back," Declan said, wrapping a massive, steady arm around her trembling shoulders.

"They have my baby!" Marin cried, her professional restraint entirely shattered. "They have no right! He doesn't know anything about your money or your family!"

"They don't want his money. They want his blood," Declan explained grimly as the SUV veered onto a private airfield. "Victoria isn't trying to ransom him. She took him to a private clinic in New York to force a rapid DNA extraction. If she can prove he's my son before I can secure him under the trust, she plans to file for emergency guardianship based on your financial instability, alleging that you hid a corporate heir to extort the family. She wants to lock him in a legal cage where I can never touch him."

The Raid on the ClinicThe Mercer private jet landed at JFK airport less than forty minutes later. Declan didn't wait for customs or clearance. A fleet of blacked-out vehicles met them on the tarmac.

They swarmed an upscale, private medical facility in Upper Manhattan. Declan didn't call the police; he used his own private army. Vance and four operatives breached the front glass doors of the clinic, bypassing the security guards with brutal, non-lethal efficiency.

Marin sprinted through the white, sterile hallways, her heart pounding in her ears. She followed the sound of a child’s muffled crying.

"Mom! Mom, let me go!"

Marin threw open the door to Examination Room 4.

Evan was strapped to a medical chair, a terrified nurse holding a syringe filled with blood samples, while a sleek, older woman in a pristine white Chanel suit watched with cold, clinical detachment. Victoria Mercer.

"Step away from my son," Declan growled, stepping into the room like a dark god of vengeance.

Victoria didn't even flinch. She elegantly adjusted her pearls. "Ah, Declan. You always were dramatic. I'm simply securing the family assets. The boy is a Calloway, raised by a maid. He has no place in our lineage."

"He is a Mercer," Declan said, his voice dropping like an anvil. He took the syringe from the terrified nurse's hand and tossed it to Vance. "And you are finished."

The Terrifying Secondary SecretThey secured Evan, who flew into Marin's arms, sobbing into her neck. Declan ordered his team to transport them immediately to his private, fortified estate in the Hudson Valley.

As they drove away from the chaotic scene at the clinic, Vance’s phone buzzed with the official results of the resort DNA test that had been rushed through a trusted lab. Vance looked at the screen, his face turning pale. He passed the tablet back to Declan.

Declan stared at the results. His breath hitched.

THE CHAPTER 3 HOOK: Marin looked over Declan's shoulder at the document. The DNA match between Declan and Evan was a perfect 99.9%. But below it, the secondary test—the automatic familial cross-reference against the entire Mercer database—revealed a horrifying truth. "Declan..." Marin whispered, pointing to the bottom line. "Look at your father's profile. It says... zero percent familial match to you. You aren't a biological Mercer at all."
