Chapter 5 - The Corporate War

The Ultimate High-Stakes BetrayalThe high-rise boardroom of Mercer Holdings in New York City overlooked the entire expanse of Central Park, but the atmosphere inside was pure poison. Twenty board members sat around a massive glass table, their faces grim.
Victoria Mercer sat at the head of the table, flanked by her biological son Julian, who was smiling like a vulture.
The heavy double doors swung open, and Declan walked in. He wasn't wearing his usual relaxed, tie-less look. He was in a full, dark bespoke three-piece suit, his expression carved from solid granite. Behind him walked Marin, holding Evan's hand tightly. Evan was dressed in a neat little suit jacket, looking around the massive room with wide, intelligent eyes.
"You have a lot of nerve showing up here, Declan," Victoria sneered, throwing a thick legal dossier onto the glass table. "The DNA results from the clinic are verified. You are a fraud. You have no Mercer blood. You are stripped of your title, your shares, and your access. And that bastard child you brought with you has no right to a single cent of this family's wealth."
The board members murmured in agreement, looking away from Declan with cold indifference. In the world of high finance, loyalty died the moment the bloodline did.
The Counter-AttackDeclan didn't sit down. He stood at the foot of the table, leaning his large hands on the glass, looking directly into Victoria’s eyes.
"You're right, Victoria," Declan said, his voice entirely calm, sending a sudden chill through the room. "I don't have a single drop of Arthur Mercer's blood. And frankly, it's the greatest relief of my life."
Julian laughed. "Then get out of our chair, big brother. It belongs to me now."
"Does it?" Declan raised an eyebrow. He nodded to Vance, who stepped forward and distributed a fresh set of financial documents to every board member.
"Arthur Mercer was a brilliant businessman, but he was a paranoid monster," Declan stated, his voice echoing with absolute authority. "He knew I wasn't his biological son. He discovered it ten years ago. That's why he created a hidden corporate structure called the Calloway-Alpha Trust. He transferred 51% of the voting shares of Mercer Holdings into that trust over a period of five years, protecting the company from ever being liquidated by you or Julian."
Victoria’s face turned completely white. "What are you talking about? That's impossible! I control his estate!"
"You control his personal estate, Victoria. The houses, the cars, the jewelry," Declan smiled, a cold, dangerous expression. "But the voting shares belong to the trust. And the bylaws of that trust state that the assets can only be unlocked by the eldest living male descendant of the person who actually funded the initial capital of Mercer Holdings—my maternal grandfather, Charles Calloway."
The Twist of HistoryMarin gasped, her hand flying to her mouth.
Declan turned to her, his eyes warm. "Nine years ago, Marin, when we met at that charity regatta, we thought it was a coincidence. But it wasn't. Your grandfather was my mother’s biological uncle. He was the silent partner who provided the initial millions that started this entire empire before Arthur stole the credit. Evan isn't just my son. He is the last living biological descendant of the original founder of this wealth."
The board members frantically flipped through the documents. The corporate lawyers looked up, their faces filled with absolute horror.
"The math is absolute," the chief legal officer whispered, his hands shaking. "The trust is legally locked. Declan doesn't own the shares... the boy does. And as his legal guardians... Declan and Marin Calloway have total control of the board."

Victoria stood up so fast her chair fell backward. "This is a lie! A setup! I’ll sue! I’ll bring this whole company down!"
THE CHAPTER 5 HOOK: Before Victoria could take a step, the boardroom doors flew open again. Two federal agents in trench coats walked in, accompanied by the New York District Attorney. "Victoria Mercer? You are under arrest for corporate fraud, illegal medical coercion, and the orchestrated kidnapping of a minor from the Ocean Crest Resort. Take her away."
