Chapter 4 - The Anatomy of a HeistRichard’s laughter was harsh, nervous, and entirely forced. He looked around the table, expecting the other executives to join in his amusement. Instead, they were staring fixedly at their iPads, scrolling through documents that had just pinged their secure servers.

"Very funny, Arthur," Richard barked, though a bead of sweat was tracing a slow path down his temple. "Is this some kind of team-building exercise? A motivational seminar on empathy? Because if so—"

"It's an audit, Richard," Eleanor said. Her voice was calm, melodic, and terrifyingly steady.

She opened a leather portfolio and slid a single sheet of paper across the polished wood toward him. Richard didn't touch it. He didn't have to; the digital header glowing on the screens around the room told the whole story.

TRANSFER OF CONTROLLING INTEREST: 51.4% OF WINSLOW HOLDINGS. HOLDER OF RECORD: ELEORAY HOLDINGS LLC (BENEFICIARY: ELEANOR VANCE).

"That's... that's impossible," Richard stammered, his fingers clawing at the edge of the table. "That signature—the Board has first right of refusal on any stock transfer! This is a hostile takeover! We can invalidate this in federal court by noon!"

"You can try," Arthur replied smoothly, pulling out a thick, black leather-bound ledger and dropping it onto the table with a heavy thud. "But you'll have to get past the federal indictments first."

Victoria Cross gasped, pulling her iPad closer to her face. "Richard... what is this? These offshore accounts in the Caymans... these are linked directly to your personal tax ID."

Richard’s face lost every vestige of color. He looked like a man standing on a trapdoor with the executioner's hand on the lever.

"You didn't just steal my grandfather's patent in 1994, Richard," Eleanor said, her dark eyes locking onto his with a devastating intensity. She didn't shout. She didn't need to. "Your father was Silas Vance’s junior partner—the man who held the keys to the lab the night it burned down. And you inherited his portfolio, his offshore accounts, and the corporate sabotage manual you've been using to bleed Winslow Industries dry for the last ten years."

The room erupted into chaos. Executives shouted over one another, laptops slammed shut, and two junior VPs scrambled toward the exit, only to find the doors blocked by four federal agents in dark suits holding federal warrants.

At the center of the storm, four-year-old Lucy climbed quietly onto Arthur’s lap, patted his cheek with a sticky hand, and whispered loudly: "Mr. Winslow? The man with the sweaty forehead looks like he's going to throw up."
