Chapter 1 - The Shadow in the Mirror

The storm outside raged like an angry beast, but inside the mansion’s kitchen, the silence was heavy. Lily finished her soup, her eyes scanning the marble countertops and the state-of-the-art security monitors humming quietly on the wall.
Maxwell Foster watched her from across the kitchen island. He was a man who could read a board of directors in seconds, yet this ten-year-old girl was a locked safe.
"You're safe here, Lily," Max said, his voice unusually gentle. "No one is going to hurt you."
Lily set her spoon down with a soft clink. She looked up, her gaze fixing onto the security monitors. "You have thirty-two cameras, Mr. Foster. Two perimeter alarms. And a deadbolt that requires biometric scanning." She paused, her voice dropping to a whisper. "But they still know I'm here."
Max frowned. "Who is 'they'?"
Before Lily could answer, Mrs. Reynolds walked back into the room holding Lily’s soaked, oversized jacket. "Sir, I was going to throw this in the dryer, but... I felt something heavy in the lining."
The housekeeper laid the wet canvas jacket on the marble counter. From a torn seam near the collar, a small, silver metallic cylinder slid out. It was no larger than a lipstick tube, but a tiny, pulsing red light blinked steadily on its tip.
Max’s blood ran cold. He knew exactly what it was. A military-grade GPS tracker.
"Lily," Max said, his voice tightening. "Where did you get this?"
Lily’s eyes widened in sheer terror. She didn't look at Max; she looked at the window behind him.
Suddenly, the kitchen lights flickered. The soft hum of the mansion's backup generator failed to kick in. The entire estate plunged into absolute, suffocating darkness.

From the hallway, the heavy oak front doors groaned as if under immense pressure.
Hook: The tracker wasn't there to find Lily. It was a beacon. And whoever was tracking her had just cut the power to the most secure mansion in Chicago.
