Chapter 3 - THE UNINVITED GUEST

The night of Annie’s formal introduction to society arrived. The estate was transformed into a winter wonderland. Annie stood at the top of the grand staircase, wearing a stunning white silk dress. Yet, her heart raced. She looked at the crowd below, seeing the fake smiles and hearing the whispered daggers.

"Just listen to the music, Annie," Lena whispered, adjusting her daughter's hair. "Remember the count."

As Annie descended the stairs, Charles met her at the bottom, offering his arm. The orchestra struck up the same waltz from the night they met. Annie danced beautifully, her movements flawless, silencing the skeptics once again.

Suddenly, the music screeched to a halt.

The heavy oak doors of the ballroom burst open. A man drenched in rain, wearing a rugged jacket and sporting a deep scar across his cheek, walked in. The security guards rushed him, but he raised his hands, shouting over the crowd.

"Get your hands off me! I’m here for my daughter!"

The ballroom erupted into chaos. High-society women shrieked; men stepped back in shock.

Lena gasped, clutching her chest. "Thomas...?"

It was impossible. Thomas Bell had died in a prison riot five years ago. Yet, here he stood, very much alive, his eyes locked onto Annie.

The Hook: Thomas pointed a finger at Charles Whitmore. "You think you're a savior, Charles? Tell them the truth! Tell them why you really adopted her! Tell them about the night of the robbery, and how you were the one who framed me to steal my share of the algorithm!"

Charles’s face hardened into stone. He stepped between Thomas and Annie. "You're trespassing, Thomas. And you're delusional. Guards, throw him out."

"Ask him, Lena!" Thomas screamed as guards dragged him away. "Ask him about the 'Orpheus Project'! He didn't adopt Annie out of pity—he adopted her because her DNA is the biometric key to the vault containing the final code!"
