Chapter 5 - THE RHYTHM OF SURVIVAL

Annie woke up in a cold, damp abandoned warehouse by the shipping docks. Her hands were tied, but her mind was sharp. She remembered what Charles had told her: If you mess up, keep listening.

Thomas stood over a massive computer terminal, Julian pacing nervously behind him. "We don't have much time, Thomas. Charles’s security team is tracking us," Julian hissed.

"Shut up, Julian. I just need her to touch the scanner and walk the pattern," Thomas said, his eyes wild with desperation. He untied Annie and dragged her to a raised, metallic floor grid that looked like a digital chessboard. "Listen to me, Annie. I'm your real father. You see those lights? You need to step on them in the exact rhythm you use when you dance. If you do it, we'll be rich. We'll never have to hide again."

Annie looked at Thomas. She didn't see a father. She saw a monster. "No," she said firmly.

Thomas raised his hand to strike her, but Julian stopped him. "Don't harm the asset, you fool!"

Suddenly, the warehouse doors were smashed open. Charles and Lena stormed in, backed by an elite tactical unit.

"Step away from the child, Thomas!" Charles shouted, drawing a weapon.

"One step closer and I detonate the warehouse!" Thomas yelled, holding up a remote trigger. "She opens the vault today, or we all die in this room!"

Lena broke away from the guards, crying out. "Annie! Don't do it!"

Thomas grabbed Annie by the shoulder, forcing her onto the grid. The computer screen lit up: BIOMETRIC CONFORMANCE REQUIRED. ARCHITECTURAL WALTZ SEQUENCE INITIATED.

A heavy electronic beat began to echo through the warehouse—a dark, distorted version of the waltz.

"Dance, Annie!" Thomas screamed. "Dance or die!"
