Chapter 2 - The Mansion of Whispers

Hook: Arthur Sterling was a man who owned half the city, but the three orphans in front of him possessed the one thing money couldn't buy—his dead wife's eyes.
"Stillborn?" Clare echoed, her voice sharp. "But we're alive. And we're seven, not five."
Arthur stood up, his mind spinning. He stared at the girls. The resemblance was undeniable. They had Victoria's distinct emerald eyes, her high cheekbones, and the small, crescent-shaped birthmark on Clare’s neck that Victoria had always joked was a kiss from the moon.
"Who is your grandmother?" Arthur asked, his voice dropping to a dangerous, icy tone. The grief in his eyes was rapidly being replaced by something far more volatile: rage.
"Grandma Margaret," Anne said, shrinking back slightly. "She works at the diner on 4th Street."
Arthur’s phone buzzed in his pocket. He didn't answer it. Instead, he gestured to a sleek, black luxury car parked by the cemetery gates. A driver in a crisp suit immediately stepped out, opening the door.
"Come with me," Arthur said. "We are going to find out what kind of sick game is being played."
An hour later, the girls were sitting in the grand library of the Sterling Mansion. It was a place of towering mahogany shelves, velvet drapes, and a massive portrait of a beautiful woman hanging above the fireplace. The woman in the portrait was Elise. Or rather, Victoria. She wore a diamond tiara, but her smile was the exact same one Sophie made when she was happy.
"She looks like us," Sophie whispered, clutching Anne's hand.
Arthur paced the room, his phone pressed to his ear. "I don't care what the DNA test costs, get the lab open now. Run a comparison between my hair and the hair samples from the girls' jackets. I want results before sundown."
He hung up and looked at the triplets. "Your grandmother... Margaret. Did she ever mention a clinic? A doctor named Dr. Vance?"
Before Clare could answer, the heavy double doors of the library burst open. Margaret stood there, her cheap coat soaked from the rain, her eyes wild with terror. Behind her, two of Arthur's security guards looked apologetic.

"Get away from them!" Margaret screamed, rushing forward to shield the girls. "Arthur, don't you dare touch them!"
Arthur didn't flinch. He walked slowly toward her, his presence suffocating. "You took them, didn't you? Five years ago, when the clinic caught fire and they told me my wife and daughters perished... you took my children."
