Chapter 2 - THE PAPER TRAIL OF BLOOD

The hook: He was the architect of his own destruction.
Max opened the folder, his hands trembling. He wasn't looking at "Urban Renewal" plans. He was looking at "Demolition and Clearance" strategies.
His company, Thornton Enterprises, hadn't just bought this land. They had bribed city inspectors to condemn buildings that were structurally sound, just so they could bulldoze them without relocation fees. And the emails—he recognized the signature. It was Harrison Wells.
"They come at night," Lily whispered. "They pour oil in the basements and light a match. They tell the people it was an accident. They say the buildings are 'unstable' so they don't have to pay for our homes."
Max stared at the blueprints. He saw a red 'X' marked over the very spot where Lily and her brother were sleeping. The next phase of the "East Side Renewal Project" was scheduled to start in forty-eight hours.
