Chapter 6 - THE FALL OF SAVANNAH’S ELITEWithin two hours, the boardroom was cleared of federal agents, handcuffs, and disgrace.

Samuel Whitmore was led out of the building in zip-ties, his expensive Italian suit rumpled and his face buried in shame as news cameras flashed blindingly outside the lobby windows.

Three corrupt board members resigned on the spot, their legal immunity traded for cooperation with federal prosecutors.

Amelia Belmont sat alone at the massive mahogany table, looking ten years older, her makeup smudged around her eyes.

Rebecca stood by the window, watching the police cruisers pull away down the street.

Matthew walked over, standing beside her in silence. He didn't gloat. He didn't celebrate. He simply handed her a warm cup of black coffee.

ā€œYou didn't have to do all of that for me,ā€ Rebecca whispered, looking up at him.

ā€œI didn't do it for you, Rebecca,ā€ Matthew replied softly, his grey eyes softening. ā€œI did it for a little girl who deserves to grow up in a world where justice actually means something.ā€

Rebecca took a sip of the coffee—strong, bitter, and completely real.

For the first time in her life, she didn't want to run away.
